Brundage is purely a weekend warriors ride, as the lift is open Fri-Sun. I rode on a Tuesday, and was the ONLY person on the entire mountain. The climb to the top is a solid workout. The trails weren't marked well, so it took me so time to understand the trail map clearly and find my way to Zorro. The climb is a good one, as normally it's used as a bomber run for downhiller's. If you're a CC rider who prefer's to work for their downs, ride mid-week. If you like to have the chair do the work, a weekend ride should suit you fine.

This is Veloschussing OK. You ride up the chairlift and bomb down. Watch out for the Clydesdales on their 40 lb. downhill bombers. Not a problem on the Elk route. Zorro is extreme stomach on the seat in places type stuff and deep dirt/sand. Fun for a day. I prefer XC where you earn your downhill. Park a car at the bottom of Bear Basin Rd. USFS 451. Off the back side of Brundage you take a connector to 451 then you can cruise down 451 to 659 (I think) Follow that down until there's fork where you can go straight. Look for a downed tree across the road straight ahead. Go a quarter mile and look for a cairn on your right. This is the Payette Rim Trail. Technical ST. With rock gardens. Follow it back to 451 and your car.
There's a book on Mtn Biking in McAll. Buy it.

I rode here with some locals who took me all over the mountain. I was there on the day of a race so the ski lift was open, I am not sure if it open all the time or not. There are awesome trails all over the place. we came across many natural jumps. the people are really nice. it is a little out of the way but it is still very fun. If you are going to ride in lewiston then make sure you have hiht quality tire liners and alot of spare tubes, there are thorns and goat heads every where.

The chairlift is open half the summer with very cheap lift prices and rentals (full and front sus. ) Check out dates at the Brundage website for concerts to add to your day of fun. Elk Trail is my favourite. It is the longest single track on the mountain, starting right off the chair and curving to the bottom lift. You start out on a rocky peak, few trees and lots of sun. Long straights and a few turns later you're into a few trees. Rocky in spots, you then drop into thicker trees, the single becomes a little tighter and rocks give way to hard pack dark soil. Then you're into some dark tree covered tight dog legs, wear light glasses so you're prepared for the shady parts. Half way down you come across a big meadow with sweeping turns and waist high grass. A few more turns and into tree line, you're almost home! This trail can take up to an hour if you enjoy scenery so if you bring a camera, buy a one ride lift ticket to see how you like it. I haven't had any trouble with punctures, trails are very clean and well marked. Run tire pressure high, traction is great unless wet.

Elk Trail is a green route, but it doesn't take much to make it difficult. Like tree skiing, just turn up the juice a little and it becomes a technical showcase.

Good mix of trails, and a short climb to the top so you don't need to buy a pass. There's beginner to expert stuff here, so most everyone can have some fun. Good mid-summer area when it's Africa hot in the valley. Id' give it 5 stars, but have to subtract one because they only allow you to climb one trail - the rest are all DH designated. Bleh.

Customer Service

If you like XC riding, don't bother buying a lift ticket - it's not a bad grunt to the top.
