Graham Mountain - Trail, Kingston, Idaho

Graham Mountain - Trail, Kingston, Idaho

DESCRIPTION

Coal Creek Trail #41 follows the creek past waterfalls and deep forest, climbing 3,160 feet in 3 miles to just below Graham Mountain. The trail is steep in sections and some hiking is probably required. Ignore trails that lead off to the left. At 5400 feet elevation and 3.5 miles find the junction with the Graham Ridge Trail #17 and cruise the ridge for 6 miles to the junction with Graham Creek Trail #33. At just over 2 miles along the ridge there is a clear-cut now of several acres that has hidden the trail for a short distance but it can picked up again at the opposite end. Descend #33 down a wonderful singletrack for 3.7 miles to the highway. Ride back down the highway for a mile and a half to the start. The views on this trail are superb, but it is a bit of a climb.

The comments and reviews above are spot on. I did the same route, climbed coal Creek, across the ridge, and down trail 33.

The first 2.5 miles of coal Creek were very scenic and mostly rideable. However the next 2 miles were pretty much hike a bike. Tough and not fun.
Views from the ridge top were awesome. Decent down talk 33 was very fun, sweet singletrack.

If I ride this again, I'll likely do an out and back riding up 33 and avoiding coal Creek at the top.

Coal Creek with it's old mines, cascades, moss covered rocks and ferns, is just one of the interesting rides in the area.

Customer Service

To ride up Graham Creek instead of Coal creek is easier but the descent of Coal Creek is brutal. There is a cutoff trail from lower Graham Creek to the upper portion of Coal Creek that can be used to vary the climb to Graham Ridge.
