North Macon Park - Trail, Macon, Georgia

North Macon Park - Trail, Macon, Georgia

DESCRIPTION

P.O.W.E.R. has done it again !!! This is the 4th trail built by P.O.W.E.R. in the past two years in Macon (including East Macon Park, Georgia Children's Home, and Mabel White). As of the date of this initial review, the trail is very new. Consequently, the trail is soft, but should harden rather quickly. Once hardened, the trail will definitely ride very fast and be quite a technical trail. The trail rides amongst hills and creeksides, and makes for an excellent ride. This trail is similar to the old FoodMax trail Maconites use to ride so often. The trail is squeezed in between North Macon Park and John Drew Tennis Center. Several bridges have been built, but true mountain bikers will not use all of them. This trail was built in an area few believed was accesible. Ride this trail for some fast and furious exercise. There are several loops within the overall trail, and we hope signs will soon be provided by the Macon Rec. Dept.

This was and is the last time I attempt riding this trail. The trail has been poorly maintained and no markings to direct you on which way to go. I did more walking than I did riding due to the trees blocking the majority of the paths. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Aweful place to ride. One section has a wooden bridge which you have to be careful crossing due to half the bridge is missing from the boards being burned by someone. Some parts of the trail is hard to keep up with due to the over growth from trees and bushes. This place needs a lot of work to make it safe for riders.

An update - Do not make plans to ride this trail; it has not been maintained (as of Jan 14, 2006) in over two years and there is no foreseeable plans in the future. Basically, all local maintenance efforts have been redirected to other trails. We're focusing on building a small number of good trails instead on a large number of poor trails.

I just got back from my first ride at these trails. The first few minutes of it are kinda hairy - everything's off camber with roots and some steep slopes. The trail was freshly thawed and slimy which made several climbs too slippery to muscle. All in all it's a fun loop with plenty of roots and odd angled turns to keep you on your toes. Very rarely do you find smooth sections that allow you to zone out and hammer ala East Macon Rec.

I rode a few days after a hard rain, and the soil was slip slip slippery on some of the steeper climbs. No sweat. I can walk.
There are a ton of roots on this trail, some big enough to take a foot out of a pedal with ease. The front section does have some mighty off camber sections, in particular a nice one along the creek bed. The backside of the trail, near the swampy spot, is pretty much the closest thing to wide open space where you can get some speed. A great trail, especially since it is so conveniently located to so many neighborhoods. I wish I had such a nice place to ride within riding distance from my house. (Note: On this trail you can see typically deep south plants like magnolia and saw palmetto as well as typically more upland plants like wild ginger and may apple. The fall zone is cool. )

I've come to Macon from Philly, PA and this is my first trail in GA. I thought the trail was a little difficult to follow at times (lots of autumn leaves covering the single track), but I found it to be a decent workout. Now I understand what everyone means when I read "built" the trail; it exists for its own sake, not due to a state or national park commission. It's good for a workout, but little else.

The path winds into and out of the shallow valley on both sides of the creek (it is easy to get turned around). A fun trail, but not technical enough for my taste. It's a good choice if you're looking for something to burn-up for practice, but frequent visits may leave you bored.

Customer Service

Look for labeled trail from parking lot. Take it fast and straight down the hill, anywhere from there.

This is the biggest piece of crap trail that I have ever tried to ride. It is unsafe and should be closed down. Whoever designed and built this trail should be banned from getting near a mountain bike.

Please!!!! Stay as far away from this trail as you can!!!!!!!

This trail is in need of work. It could be a great short track and has great potential but as it stands is not a safe trail to ride.

Start at the right of the parking lot.
