Only trail in area with climbing, approx. 1,000 feet which compared to Flatrock's 300 feet is a big deal. The main loop is about 8 miles, but with the addition of the Stower's loop the trail is close to 11 miles. Nothing terribly technically difficult, but the steep and sometimes lengthy climbs (especially on the Stower's loop) can wear you out. I'm a 6hour racer and the longest ride i've been able to do out here is 3hours (approx. 35 miles). My average lap time with the Stower's loop is around an hour and ten minutes, though I've never really went "full gas" out there. Definitely a fun trail but I recommend riding with somone who knows the trail first as its easy to miss the cut off for the Stower's loop.

Customer Service

Ride down the gravel hill, and turn right at the first clearing, go through what we call "the speed section" which is an open downhill that leads into a dried creek bed. After you climb out of that, immediately branch off onto the Stower's loop (go across the street and ride on the sidewalk and you should see a red pole; turn right there) after riding the Stower's loop, ride back across the street and back onto the main loop. Everything else is fairly clear and you should end right wear you started.

So yes there are no big climbs and not very any downhill areas, but i love this trail. Its fast and right by my house. Other then the fact that its short i don't see to much of a difference between here and flat rock. They are both flat not technical at all but both very fast and fun.

I've lived next to this trail for the past six months, so its been super nice to have it right next to me. I've only seen another rider on it once before, and I ride it about once a week, but somebody clearly maintains it because since Christmas there have been numerous small improvements and route changes (mostly good).

The trail is not that technical, although there are a couple good spots, but I like that because it means you can really focus on speed and endurance. Riding the trail is a much more adrenaline filled way to get in a good cardio workout than the typical army solution of going on a 5 mile run.

I wish there were more hills, but its Georgia so you have to work with what you have. There is a pretty tight beginners jump in the southeast corner of the route, a wooden ramp about 18 inches high.

Overall I think its a great local trail to have, nothing too crazy- good for beginners. If you are a really hardcore rider who loves lots of steep descents, rock gardens, etc, this probably isn't going to be challenging enough for you, but its still worth it to check it out if you are in the area and want to try something new.

I always start on 1st Cav Division Road just north of the road to the elementary school (Stowers road). There is a sign on the west side that says "fitness trail" and that leads you to the mtb trail, which I always take the first right about 30 or so meters down.

Don't expect a whole lot. there was a bit of up hill, a tiny dip followed by more up hill. Then there was a longer down grade that ended in the smallest attempt at a box jump I've ever seen. and then it loops around a little. Probably be okay if you're looking for something to get your heart rate up but if you're looking for adrenaline, don't waste your time.

Decent trail that gives a bit of a challenge. Not too bad just wish it were longer. It's about 6 miles if you start at the top of the fitness trail and finish there as well. I try to ride this at least once a week and I have noticed that someone has put some bridges up in a few places that would require super swampers to navigate the mudholes below. Much appreciated by the way. Would like to see some more trail outside the southe gate on he Alabama side of the river. It just looks like that area has a lot of potential for some good trails.

Im glad to see the Trail is getting some love now. I began building this trail about ten years ago and it was more like a wagon wheel system. We went in and reworked it to make it a full loop. The single track portion is now at 6.1 miles and with the Fitness Trail eight miles total. I have ridden West point and Flat rock Park. This trail is not as maintained but will test your cardio and in some places give you the white knuckle treatment. We are working to get it back to race worthy. I have several SORBA trained Builders on the Team now. We plan to add 3 more miules to the course and put some dry trails down in the low ground in the future to make it a total of 12 miles. Again work in progress. If your in the area, look me up on facebook David Morgan

FIRSTLY: everyone complaining about the lack of maintenance ( leaves on trail ) are you serious?!?! does that bug you that much? grow up your on a mountain bike for christs sake. SECONDLY if you sit and complain or dont like the overgrowth, get a rake and do some of your or trail work.

i personally thought the trail was average. i race professional DH and i was PCSd to benning and thought i would check it out. its hard to follow the trail as there are plenty of turn offs with a lack of direction. a trail map at the trail head would fix some of the issues...

like i said i rode it on my DH bike ( about 50 pounds ) so no one should have any trouble....i would of enjoyed it more had i rode my AM bike...

Like said in the last review, the trail has been reworked, and now it's a full loop. The trail is a lot of fun, offers some challenging spots, and it's pretty smooth most of the time. Some of the trail is new, some isn't, but regardless it is a great ride, and if you're in the area make sure to check it out. The only downside with the trail is that you have to go on a fitness trail for a mile or so after about 3 miles of singletrack, then you get back onto a trail for a little less than a mile, and you're back where you started. I give it a 3.5 out of 5 for both the fitness and technical levels.

Customer Service

There's only one route, and it's one direction. There's currently yellow tape helping to guide you along. When you're on the fitness trail take a left where it says Halfway Crossing or something like that, otherwise you get to ride longer on the fitness trail, but you might just want the extra mileage.
