Cooper Furnace - Trail, Cartersville, Georgia

Cooper Furnace - Trail, Cartersville, Georgia

DESCRIPTION

Trails created by ATV's and Motorcycles, all land owned by the Army Corps. Trails are all double track, very rocky and bumpy. Multiple different loops you can do, climbs are steep, as are the downhills. Lots of fun stuff to ride in here. I haven't explored the whole thing yet, but there are a lot of trails. You can also start just past the last parking spaces on the road into the day use area, especially if you like climbing. Another good starting point is the singletrack behind the furnace itself in the day use area.

We approached these trails from the Komatsu company property where there are lots of dirt bikers and four trackers. These trails are indeed vertical and will challenge your steep skills up and down. We thought we had a good sense of direction and got totally lost. The property is extensive and not completely marked. Some hikers pointed the way out after they asked, How in the hell did you get here? We didn't know either. No problem. We ended up at the Cooper's Furnace parking and hacked back to the Komatsu side. The terrain is tough, but beautiful with very tall trees and a complete canopy. Several nice rocky streams.

What route? Just go ride and soon too. On these trails, you're never far (enough) from civilization and development encroaches every side. So you won't get too lost.

What's the something lake nature preserve? it's further up towards chattanooga. That was fun with a huge waterfall. It's not always open though.
