Flat Creek - TRAIL

Flat Creek - Trail, Blue Ridge, Georgia

5-6 miles of singletrack. I rode it clockwise which means go ride up to the sign and go left and descend enjoy it you will pay later, cross creek go back up long ascent (higher than where you started) then descend all the way to parking lot. Nice downhill, pretty scenery, very shady. Tough climb with alot of 50 yrd technical sections full of baby-head boulders. I rode it clockwise because Nutt's book says to, counter might be easier but the downhill would be more technical. You can fly on the downhills if you go the way I did but you do all of your climbing at once.

My all time fave! I call it the microwave trail. I'm fully cooked in less than 6 miles and an hour.

Definitely got lucky and happened to ride the trail counter clockwise. It made the down hills rough, but not as rough as trying to ride up the rock gardens. Climb and climb some more, the strap it on and rumble down to the base of the creek. Then climb back out and head to the next trail.

Customer Service

Counter clock wise.

This trail rocks!! Lots of up rocky up hill well worth the pain! Once you get to the top it's an awesome ride down. All tight single track. Must keep your eyes and mind on the trail one slip and you could end up going down the side of a mountain. I loved it!! A must for all who like to go really fast on a technical down hill. I would not recommend for Beginer.

Customer Service

Start in the deep Gap parking lot. Follow signs for Flat Creek make sure you don't end up on the Stanley Gap loop unless you want an even harder ride.

I rode across Stanley Gap from the Stanley Creek Road side and ended up doing Flat Creek as a bonus, then headed back across the Gap. Mild climbing in the beginning and then a great downhill (very technical and rocky).

Customer Service

Counterclockwise is the BEST way.

The Trail starts with a long climb ( Worth It) when you make it to the top its down hill very tight single track to Flat Creek. The Flat creek loop is very nice I ride it counter clockwise all single track with a Rocky Techincal downhill. This ride is not for beginners, plan on a long ride and bring lots of water and food, 15 miles.

285 Hwy to 75 Hwy North to 575 North to the Rock Creek Baptist Church in Cherry Log (Rock Creek Road) Turn Right at the church and the road will put you on Rock creek road, Turn right the road turns to gravel go pass the ranger station and there will a parking lot on the left, That is Stanley gap trail head. The trail will take you over the Mountain and down to Flat Creek Awesome Ride. I would Highly recommend stopping by the Cartecay Bike shop in Ellijay before you start this and talk Mike! The information you need this guy has it plus supplies to last a lifr time and Killer Service.

going clockwise you start with a very nice tight smooth downhill. This one of the best downhill runs, too bad there is only about a mile of it. this smooth section is also a good uphill climb. The initial mile or two of the trail out of the creek is pretty rocky with the baby head sized rocks. But is a technical challange that improves the skills. The climb gets less rocky and continues to an elevation higher than your start, so the final mile or so is a downhill rush on old roadbed.

My wife, Lori, and I had the pleasure of a personal tour from a local trail guru, Sherry! Thanks Sherry. We did one lap (6 miles) in roughly an hour and 20 minutes; stopping for pictures included. At the parking lot, meet too buddies who were late risers. Did a second lap with them. Even more fun than the first! Went right (CCW) both times. Gradual mile or so climb on double-track. Becomes single-track once downhill begins. Fun fast rocking sections with lots of wet springs crossing and sometimes joining the trail. All the wet sections are ridable. A new bridge has been built just above the one deep creek crossing. Thanks Girl Scouts Troop 4477. After the bridge, it's all up for another mile or so. A really fun, intermediate trail in the mitts of 2 other (not yet ridden) tough trails; Green Mtn & Stanley Gap! Long Branch just down the road is a 2 mile Beginner trail. Thanks SORBA Ellijay (EMBA) and those who've helped maintain this trail!

Customer Service

At Flat Creek Loop sign, majority ride it counter clockwise (right) which is down rocks, up smooth. Tougher technical route is clockwise (left).

Very nice trail. I rode counter-clockwise so the first climb was smooth and easy. After gaining around 700', you begin a fast rocky descent through lush forest. Nice, long, un-interupted downhill! After the downhill you climb (I'm guessing) a few hundred feet in elev. back to the trail you came up to access the loop. I rode this down to the Stanley Gap trail. It was here that I discovered the funky substance in the bottom of my water bottle. I poured the water out and rode up Stanley Gap until my thirst forced me to turn around(2 miles). This trail was also cool. I plan to return with a clean bottle and ride Stanley Gap. I would have given a 5 if not for the lack of jumps/technical obstacles but still a great trail!

This is a great trail! This trail has it all except log crossings. Streams, creeks, nice downhills, great climbs, and technical sections. Some of the downhills can be quite technical. It is rocky at points but for the most part it's root free. Combine this trail with one of the other two around and you can ride for 3+ hrs and never be on the same trail! I will be back again.
