Enviornmental Center - Trail, Winter Sprinngs, Florida

Enviornmental Center - Trail, Winter Sprinngs, Florida

DESCRIPTION

There are a variety of trails here. Some are more technical than others. A few small drops, very little sugar sand. Some parts extremely slippery when wet.

This trail is very short, but alot of technical riding. It has alot of bridges, teeter-totters, jumps, logs rides and thigns like that. Recently people have been building new bridges and some fairly tricky parts. Everything you can go around, and this place is always getting better.

The E-center has been revived. The loop around the creek next to the ballfields is about 1.3 miles. A few guys have been doing a lot of work on it lately. Downed trees have been cleared, and some new bridges added. New trails are being cut to lengthen the loop. Not much is going on the side by the actual environmental center. There is nowhere good to ride on that side right now. This is not a place to travel to, but it's the best place nearby if you are local.

This is a complete waste of time and with these high gas prices it is not even worth going to. The trail is way too short I found 1 mile single track if not less everything else is just plain stupid alot of fire access road (this is not a trail)and I ate spider after spider along with their web. Go to to the Jones Trailhead in SNOWHILL RD. instead. Also the stunts and jumps they have are just plain stupid and will mess up your bike as well as injure you. NOT WORTH IT! IF YOU WANT STUNTS GO TO LARRY'S LOL!!! PEACE OUT AND RIDE SAFE! NOT HERE THOUGH, THIS PLACE SUUCKKKSS.......!

I just started riding and this is one of the only trails in the area so its not bad. The loop by the ballfields is still there with some shaky stunts and a few jumps. and most of the bridges are intact, but a little shaky.
The Park side has a few boardwalk loops and a single trail following the river. Not much there but nature. and mud.

Customer Service

Start at Osprey Trail and loop your way around and under the bridge. (too scared?) Then hit the tech stuff on the south side. You can do a giant loop.

Looks like no one has written much about the enviro center lately. It is in much need of repair. It had been a couple years since I have been out there, I think the last time was 2004. The bridges are either falling apart or not there anymore. Not really any stunts left and the Lake Jessup side single track trail is very over grown and lots of fallen trees across the trail. Not sure who takes care of this place, maybe Seminole county, but looks like no one really cares about the bike trails. I will try and bring some wood next time to work on the bridges.

Pretty fun little trail. Not hard to navigate and close to the city. I like to ride by the baseball fields. Definitely a good place to build up some skills before trying to go for anything overly challenging. If anyone ever wants to ride on the weekend me and my girlfriend are usually up. bike@endloser.com

Don't go to Wekiva unless you like sugar sand. This is the best thing close to the city.

My son and I started riding the creek loop after most of the hurricane cleanup had already been done (big thanks to whoever was involved). I'm not sure how many obstacles were there before, but there was a good variety of stuff when we started going and we sure have had a blast trying (and sometimes slamming off of) all the bridges, see-saws, and jumps that others have built. Unfortunately, it seems like every other week, someone tears parts of the ladder bridges apart and tosses the pieces in the creek. My son and I have started taking tools and hardware to make repairs when necessary. We have spent much time fishing the wood out of the creek and have even used big honkin' deck screws to help prevent destruction. Unfortunately, it seems like lately we are spending more time repairing the obstacles than actually riding since some peeps keep tearing stuff apart as fast as we can repair it. I could almost understand if those who were tearing the obstacles apart were also hauling the wood away to prevent rebuilding. Maybe they are not happy with spoiling the natural state of the area with man-made contraptions for bikers to huck themselves off of. But I suspect that the perps are probably just local neighborhood kids who have nothing better to do than seek and destory since the wood is usually just tossed aside or in the creek. One rider told me recently that a Boy Scout troop came through and tore up some obstacles and tossed the wood in the creek. I find it hard to believe that a Scout leader would allow or condone that. This past Sunday was the worst I've seen yet. Nearly every wooden obstacle was rendered unusable either through total destruction or by removing the approach ramps to the bridges. My son was very disappointed to say the least. We thought about making some repairs but it would have taken more time and people than we had available. We still had a good ride and found that new portions of the Enviro Center side are being cleared all the time. We even rode down one of the (closed) boardwalks down to Lake Jesup and saw a good sized gator hanging out.

Thanks to Josh for clarifying... What I ment was that most of the stunts have been demolished, the trail is still rideable, just not much fun.

The post immediately below this one is innacurate. The singletrack along the creek on the Park side is still intact, based on an initial inspection on foot. Word is that the stunts have been removed, I didn't walk all the way out there, but the singletrack is clear and rideable. The stunts were poaches anyway. Without going through the right avenues, stuff like this is bound to happen eventually.

Customer Service

Park by the woods to the left of all the ballfields (back to the road), and find the entrance into the woods.
