Cholee Park - Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida

Cholee Park - Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida

DESCRIPTION

Fast with quite a bit of technical areas thrown in. Some decent small hills (12')that sneak up on you due to the woods and a narrow bridge thrown in for fun. Trail is very tight in some areas with dense woods and opens up in others. Gets real sandy in some areas when there is a lack of rain but it keeps the track from getting crowded and is still rideable. Trail is fairly well marked. There is an shellrock access road that the trail uses in several spots that can be used to make the loop shorter or longer depending on which section you like to ride. Watch for all the snakes, armadilloes, and occasional possum.

Tons of sugar sand, no descents. This is the stereotypical flat land trail, ie the butt of the FL rider/trail jokes in the forums. No tech, just roots, palms, and sugar sand on flat land. There was one weak climb I coasted up, just to be disappointed on the way down; a first glace what appeared would be a small drop turned out to be ramped. Ending weakness with weak sauce..

The trail markers are a bit dated most the 'Red' arrows are easier than the other colors mostly blue. IMO these trails should have been marked green with the occasional blue route. No evidence the park is capable of reaching an advanced trail let alone claiming to have expert trails (red). No actual rating system in use or signs to tell you what trail you're getting on. At best this is a mundane beginner trail. There doesn't look to be much potential for more. Many switch backs I doubt there is enough room to expand into anything beyond flat land XC.

Customer Service

S on Pinehurst, W on Lake Worth, S on the Turnpike... I'd recommend hitting up a Broward or Dade Co. park.

Well it ain't perfect but it has alot of potential. If people spent a little time with it, it could rival some of the better parks in South Florida. It has plenty of space to add trail, please someone help this trail, if you have free wood and time be creative and have at it.

Customer Service

There are no clearly marked paths, someone tried and only a few signs remain.

When we ride West Palm, we save Cholee for last (after the mountain and K-mart). The trail has a lot to offer. The beginning can be quite wet after heavy rains. There is a tight section through some paper trees. There are several crossings through drainage ditches. Around the half way point there are some fun climbs and drops. The trail then turns into a tight "jungle" area, which can be quite technical with slippery "gatorbacks". You finish up by going up and down a sandy ridge several times. When I am finished with West Palm's "Big Three", I am so tired I can hardly drive back to Miami!!

Great trail for a variety of things. Good technical trail, some nice hills, the sandy area is very good for the cardiovascular, and the bridge is fun.

Customer Service

I-95 to Forrest Hill Blvd west to the turnpike. Just east of the turnpike bridge on the southside of the road

As one of the original creators of the Cholee trail, I still have a warm spot in my heart for it. Because it is the farthest palm beach ride from my home, I dont use it as often as I'd Like. Lately though we did some trail maintenence and a ride and it refreshed my memory why I like it so much. I has a little bit of everything, some very tight, some wide open, short steep hills, mud, sand, hardpack, roots, logs, bridges, palmettos, all at the same time on the same ride. We have permission to add about two more miles in the back area, just need the people to help do it. This place will likely get hot after K mart disappears.

Well after moving down here 8 months ago, I must have really got spoiled on Markham, and Oleta, because this place, plain and simple, was soooooooo boring. There is nothing to it really, just flat, uninspiring single-track. All I wanted to do, from the moment I started, was get out of there. Went there basically, to see if I could add another trail to my rides, but I think not. Think I stick to Oleta, Markham, and even Quiet Waters.

This was my first time on this trail and I was pleasantly surprised. The trails are well maintained and well marked. Due to its proximity to KMart, I would definitely use this trail as a warm up before hitting KMart. Not too technical, some sandy patches.

This trail is a technical sandy trail that isnt long enough to be torturous but the sand couldnt be placed better by a pshycologist. It is(the sand) a mental obstical as well as a physical one.The malaleuca trees are a great Reminder of K-mart but shorter and slightly more technical. there are a few short climbs(sandy climbs) as well as drops. As mentioned in other reviews the front is quite wet after a good rain. but none the less still a great section. This trail is roumered to get quite bigger with some bridges added on by the constructor of the masterpeices at K-mart (THANKS MIKE!!!!!!!) after the K-mart trail gets dozed.(shortly 1 year max!!!!!!) so this trail will be even better in a couple of years maybe less!!!! this will be the new pop spot

This trail no longer exists. Palm Beach County found that it was not being used enough to warrant keeping it around so it leveled the trail. This should act as a warning to South Florida mountain bikers that we do not have the support of county commissioners so try to keep the trails we do have left, like Markham and Oleta, clean and do not attempt to alter these trails to make them harder or easier because they will be closed as a result of your actions. It is a shame to lose any trail so ride the ones that we have while we have them. Be safe.
