The trails in the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge are nice, scenic rides that offer a more relaxed riding experience. There are basically old logging roads - and dikes that cross the marshes and inlets. Most are double track with flat, well maintained surfaces. On the day that I was there, some of the dikes were washed out from recent storms and we carried our bikes across. The hardcore amongst you may choose to navigate your bike through these for a brief thrill. There are basically 2 trails: a 6.5 miler and a 12 miler. Here is a link with a map: (click on #2). According to the Park Ranger, there are other old logging roads in the refuge that are not designated as a trail but can also be ridden on. Overall, its an easy, non-technical area suited for anyone who enjoys observing wildlife as much as riding. Aligators abound and there are all kinds of birds. Birders and tour groups on foot were present on the day we rode. This would also be a great place for trail running. A caveat: Bring your mosquito repellant! It was mid January and around 65 degrees and the mosquitos were in full force on the dikes.
