Red Bug - Trail, Tallahassee, Florida

Red Bug - Trail, Tallahassee, Florida

DESCRIPTION

The central trail flanks a stream and makes a loop on either side of the bank. Lots of roots, but great terrain. You can leave the trail and access 1000 or more adjacent acres of City and State property.

Challenging and fun trail. Well maintained with bridges, optional technical sections. I think they should one-way this trail.

Customer Service

Ride it counter clockwise. Great to combine red bug and maclay park trail. Awesome trails!

Trail was fast and had a nice flow, going up and down a hilly section of the park. The surface is mostly clay, which makes it fast. It has a couple of creek crossings and man made features to jump. I did not think it had as many roots as others posted. It offers many access points and it is wooded and shaded. Close to town, but once you are inside the woods it makes you feel that you are away from it all. Overall, I would rated intermediate in difficulty but can be ridden by a adventurous beginner.

Customer Service

It has different access points. I entered through the main entrance of the park.

Great escape right close to town. Trail loop has multiple routes (I parked at the south end of the ballfields) and is well marked. Lots of roots, but they just make it fun. There's a couple of extra features at the trail too. Get ready to play on some manmade obstacles.

Customer Service

It's a loop. Pick one. It's marked either way.

I haven't ridden Redbug since approx 1998. What a blast. It has been rerouted and lengthened to approximately 4.5 miles since then with the addition of bridges, skinnies and a neat little skills area. I rode this trail at the crack of dawn on a foggy morning which made for a slippery, nether-world experience. Over the last 13 years the roots have become more exposed, but still manageable. I really enjoyed all of the improvements. My 29'er single was a good choice to ride as it made the climbs fast and took the edge off of the 227,893 roots. I wish I had more time to do a 2nd lap. Kudos to the trail crews over the years. I will be back.

Customer Service

Park in the south end of the park. The skills area and bike wash are located there. Follow the trail markers starting at #1 and progress clockwise.

A little over 3 miles (loop). This trail is a lot of fun and most sections are fast with a lot of turns. There are a few bridges to go over. I've ridden the trails at Tom Brown park a few times and this one. I think this one is a lot more fun. It is kind of short, but you'll still get a good work out. There are a ton of roots to go over, but that makes the ride more fun.

Customer Service

I always enter by the tennis courts. I think its best to enter to the left.

Not sandy, pretty fast overall, and short. I ended up doing about 4.8 miles though. It's also a loop which is nice. Pretty narrow singletrack in most areas, also some surprising climbs, dips and long straightways for speed. Lots of roots, makes for a bumpy ride.

This trail is a 3.5 single track that has plenty of roots and small climbs. Beginners will be getting off their bikes few times. Intermediates will have a nice challenge and experts will fly through this trail but will have a good workout on their technical skills. There is very little sand. There is one creek crossing that you can ride across. There are optional stones to walk across.

Customer Service

I parked by the tennis courts and rode the trail both ways.

Across Meridian Rd. (paved road in front of the park) there are loops marked west, east, north, etc... You can pick up some more miles. These trails are flat single track. Jeep trails surround these single tracks. People run on these trails (mainly the jeep trails) on this side of the road. The single track loops are in great shape. The jeep trails are sandy but there is a great downhill as you approach Lake Overstreet. Just watch out for runners if you like to fly down hill. If you choose to ride around the lake, there are some good down hills too (and climbs).

Tom Brown Park offers a half day of trail riding. There is something for all levels there and the trails were lots of fun too. Great condition too. However, Redbug is my favorite Tallahassee trail so far.

Short but sweet. Fun trail but do wear the bugspray because the chiggers will get you otherwise. It is a bit rooty in places but is fun twisty singletrack with lots of short ups and downs.

This was the second trail that my bike and I used to get reaquainted after a year long absence. The trail is actually just over 3 miles. Very well marked, in fact, so far the best marked trail i've ridden so far. This trail wasn't too hard aerobically, it was fun to ride and I even enjoyed the mud bath I took at one spot. I didn't find it techinical at all. Nice trail to warm up with. Next time if there is one, I will try and find the secret ridding place after a quick spin on this trail. Trail didn't seem as tight. The one big plus is that I didn't run into anyone else on the trail while I was riding it.

This is some of the more technical trail layout in town. Once mastered, blast down to Lake Jackson or cross Meridian Road and ride several miles of new single track just created within the adjacent State Park. All of the property is beautiful. I ride it five to six days a week.

Customer Service

None really. Just get out on the main trail and explore from there.
