Strength:

These trails are some of best trails in our area. There are around 22 miles of all together. The trails on the Pate rd side are the oldest and the hardest. Trails offer some rolling uphill & down hill sections as well as some sprint sections. There's about 12 miles on this side of Pate rd. Check out the big map of the trails at the trail head. Take a pic of the map as some of the intersections can be confusing at times. While you in the area check out the Games side trails which are on the other side of Pate Rd. On this side, the trails offer 3 loops (10 miles longest )and are marked very good. The games side trails are faster, smoother and hold up great after a rain storm. The local PORC group really do a great job on keeping up the trails and these trails are used by a lot of different people every day. If you are ever in the Pensacola area, do yourself a favor and check this gem out. You will be glad you did.

Weakness:

The Pate Rd side can be confusing at the intersections.

Fun trail!!! Nothing too technical though. There are some great downhills that will keep you on your toes. Trail maintenance was awesome. Hats off to PORC for keeping up some great trails. Some areas you had to make some educated guesses on which way the trail turned but within 100 feet you would find a trail marker. Also, there are a crap load of mounted trail maps throughout the route. Be careful of soft sand throughout the trails. It can surprise you if you're not used to riding on it. Overall, great trail. I'm already planning a trip back.

The UWF trails are great! Porc has done a great job on these, and others are adding trails and improvements all the time. I joined PORC so I could contribute something that I and my family use weekly. The games trails on the north side of Pate road are excellent.

It will take months and even a couple of years before someone could become familiar with all the trails if they ride several times a week. And if you increase your speed it becomes a new challenge!

First off, you can ignore any reviews of this trail from before 2004. Hurricane Ivan blew through and screwed most of Pensacola, including the trails. Since then, PORC has done an amazing job of getting the trails back on-line, organizing events, trail markings, maps, etc.

Trails are easy to follow (Wantz Way/Valley trails can get a little tricky). Two sets of power lines make great landmarks. Trails flow nicely, clearly marked, and maintained really well. It's a good mix of technical, long gradual climbs, fast downhill sections, and a few jumps here and there.

Trails are non-directional, but the usual route is taking a right from the Pate Rd. trailhead. On a quiet day, ride the other direction for a completely different ride (maybe even more fun). Because of the sandy soil, the trail is dry hours after a heavy storm.

I recently moved out of Pensacola, but I was part of a group that rode 2-3 times a week. The trails never got old...because of the configuration, you can link different tails together, ride different directions, etc.

Customer Service

The 10 Mile main loop is a blast. Love the downhill areas of the Chute and the challenge of getting up The Gorge (parallel trails between the two sets of power lines).
Not a big fan of the trails near the power plant...too rooted and technical for me, but others might love it.
The new loop one other side of Pate was becoming a favorite of mine before I left.

The UWF trail system consists of a North Pate loop called the Games Loop with over 4 miles of 90% fairly flat single track with 3 technical drops at the end of the trail progressing from about 15 to 40 feet. A good warm up before crossing Pate road to the UWF main trails. The UWF trails have a main loop of over 9 miles than can be ridden at about 11 with addition a the technical Bayou trails, or shortened to about 4 with use of a 1/4 mile cut through. The trails have about 400' of elevation change over the 9+ miles with a mixture of fast downhills and gentle climbs. Technical sections vary from washout drop offs and step ups and down trees as well as some sand. Trail is best ridden shortly after a rain, or in the winter months the cool damp weather keeps the sand hard packed. Red arrows mark the 9 mile loop, green the 4 mile, maps are available at the PATE Rd. trailhead or visit www.porc.org for maps, events, and group rides.

When you think of Florida you think of flat & sandy trails that lead to the beach. While we don't have the elevation of many other states this particular trail system is pretty darn fun. Expect lots of sigletrack with technical parts mixed in and (for Florida) some decent elevation that makes for a good work out. The Pensacola Off-Road Cyclists maintain the trails and have been working hard to keep them in good shape.

Customer Service

Main loop is about 9.5 miles. Short loop is 4.5 miles. An additional 4 miles (and growing) on the Hangman Loop across Pate Road. Visit www.porc.org for maps, group rides, and post to the forum for more info from locals about the trails.

A bunch of trails that are fun to ride on the edge of a rail. I like to ride on the verge of chaos, but most all of the rich, little baby riders I see are riding in 1st gear with their two-thousand dollars bikes that I should have, with camelbacks, full $200 biking uniforms, and special biking shoes make me sick!!!!!
I can just hear the rich riders saying eachother's names on the trails, "Look out, Larry, some hooligans built a jump on the trail. Make sure to go around it!!!"
Rich people go home if your just here for exercise or to be "Xtreme" in the safest way possible.

Customer Service

Ride the fastest, hardest, most technical trail you can find. Use gears, pedal hard AND, unless you're an idiot and can't use common sense, you need NO MAP!

just thought I'd update: These trails are still excellent for what we have to work with. They do change over time or hurricanes but PORC works hard to keep them up and fun. They are about 90% singletrack always climbing or descending and if you go fast you have very little rest time. If you don't think they are fun or challanging your not going fast enough.

Customer Service

maps at PORC.org. the bridge from the university side is no more so best bet is parking at the pate road trail head. There are trail blazes to show the regular long (8-9) mile loop and the short (4.5-5) mile loop. there are more so explore.
