One of the only places in Florida with some good climbs and fast descents. One of the hardest, but best places to ride in Florida.

I havent been to this trail in awhile, but i had to put my two cents in. first time i rode it was when i was but a fledgling biker (it was during a NORBA race, talk about being totally outclassed). Oh my gravy, i felt like a little mountain goat on some of those hills! every trail i have ridden since then has been a comparison to this hellacious creation... im upset to hear all the best parts have been destroyed... i actually saw someone loose their bike on that bridge (poor guy tried to pass someone on it and totally wiped)... needless to say, rode off the trail with much blood and dirt.. fell buncha times, but felt so good to finish it.

This place used to be one of the best I have ever ridden. Up to about a year ago, they maintained the place very well. It was challenging but maintained. Since then, however, the place has gone to hell. They have allowed moto-cross on the mountain bike trails. This completely tore up all the trails to the extent they are non-repairable. A year ago, I would have given this place 5 stars. Now, only 1 star. I'm not even sure they are still allowing mountain bikes there anymore. I heard a rumor they are strictly moto-cross now....

If you want a good challenge in the same area, Santos has everything to offer. I have yet to go to Reddick (Razorback) but I hear it is great. Finally, in the Tampa area, check out Alafia (in Lithia)

Hard Rock is more of a race course than a group of trails. The loop is right around 6mi. Lots of climbing (by FL standards) with short, fast desents. Mostly hard pack, so it's fast and some fair technical chalenges for a race course. It's the main course on the FL State Championship Series. The first and last race of every series is there and the 4th race (of 8) of our 98 season was also an AMBC Eastern final held there. It's my favorite course in the state.
It's also a moto-x park but courses are separete. There is a fee to ride but bathrooms, showers, camp sites and hook ups are provided.

Customer Service

The course is constantly varied or reversed to offer a little variety or to avoid problems (the bridge)

The Santos trail in Bellview. This is a network of trails, not a race course. It's a blast, with trails of all skill levels. It's also the busiest trail in the area.

even compare to hard rock. This is one of my favo trails to ride. I don't mind the 10hr drive at all for such awesome riding!!!!!!

It's hard to find fault with this outstanding trail. One of Florida's epic rides, this beautiful and demanding 6-7 mile loop will leave you physically exhausted but psyched for a return visit.

On your first visit, though, prepare to be a bit underwhelmed. You enter through a chain-link fence to find a garish cinderblock pro shop on one side and a (gasp!) motocross track on the other. From there you wait (and on a weekday, wait and wait and wait) for the attendant to relieve you of five bucks and send you on your way. It doesn't look promising, to put it mildly.

Relax. For starters, the motocross track is completely separate from the mountain bike trails, so any fears of having your eardrums blown out by a 250cc two-wheeled chainsaw or body mangled by some crazed hillbilly on an ATC are unfounded. Secondly, this is NOT a cheezy, overgroomed MTB "park" -- this is a serious loop of real singletrack.

Again, depending on the route, it may start off a bit soft. My first ride led me through a short section of moderately technical trail before dumping me in what appeared to be a huge landfill. Yippee. But things improved considerably from there.

No matter what the trail route of the day is, you'll find yourself tested by an only somewhat technical, but aerobically challenging trail through a beautiful landscape of hardwoods and lakes.

As advertised, there are some fast and surprisingly long descents. There are also a few legitimate climbs that will put your quads and lungs to the test. One, nicknamed "The Wall," is so insanely steep that I found myself laughing when I saw it. Forget about riding it -- I had trouble climbing it. Unless you're one hell of a climber, don't burn yourself out trying.

One possible note of caution. Parts of this trail are somewhat isolated, and on weekdays, the trail is virtually deserted -- I was the only person there last time I rode. I would suggest that during the week you ride with a partner, or at least let someone know what time you plan to finish, because if you crash hard, it might be hours before someone finds you.

And you won't have to spend hours there to have a great day. One lap will probably be more than enough for most recreational riders. I've done two and, I've got to admit, it was absolutely brutal.

Brutal or not, I love this trail -- it's what mountain biking is all about. If you're in Florida, you owe it to yourself to give Hardrock a try.

Was hoping for better downhill portions. Lots of technical twisting and turning. Don't go there after if rains unless you like riding on slippery roots and clay. Trail is 6 miles long I guess, but it is compacted into an area about 1/2 mile square so lots and lots of u-turns. Some pretty mean climbs, but no serious drops. Best in I have been to in FL though.

Only gave it 4 cause I was hoping for better downhill parts, guess I'll go to the mountains now.
