I' just started riding Camp Murphy again after about 2 years. I am so impressed with the progress that club scrub has made in all aspects of these trails. Of course, we've had a lot of rain which helps to wash down the sugar sand but there are now many boardwalks and stone walls where there was just sand previously. Also plenty of mulch and pine straw on climbs. Sure, there's patches of deep sand that you really need to spin hard thru but it's very doable and just part of the challenge.
Only negative comment is that a couple of the trails are under water but that's temporary and not any fault of the course.

My favorite trail is osprey from the southernmost trailhead. Roots, mud, sand, air, speed
Also ranger for scenery and is quick

I know it is Florida but words can't express how deep the sand is that covers most of this trail. If you like sand, sun and lots of palm roots than this is the trail for you. All else are better off finding a different trail to ride. My favorite trails are fast, flowing off road trails and I average slower on this trail than any other thanks to the abundance of sand. It wouldn't be as bad if there was some shade, but I suppose if there were some shade than then there wouldn't be so much sand.

I liked these trail networks just fine. It is difficult to ride. but that's kinda the point. Otherwise we'd be road weenies (kidding, I ride road also). The terrain park is fun, and so are the long gently sloping hills that lend themselves to fast runs. I ride a rigid Bianchi single speed, and I had no probs. Of course Kenda 2.6 tires at about 30psi could have helped. Be careful with the tree that fell across the trail at the end of eight-tenths, sharp 10" spikes and little room to get around without taking a dab. Kudos to the builders. Sugar sand is a b*tch to pull a wheel-barrow through.

I only rode here once but plan on returning. The key is to ride it while the sand is moist, day of or after a good soaking is best. As I rode the sand was drying and if you know Florida Sugar Sand, this is not even easy to walk in sometimes. Otherwise, well maintained, fun obstacles at trailhead, cool root scenarios, interesting Camp Murphy cement foundations left out there probably old radar pedestals. fun place, take water!!!

Very sandy....not worth it unless you live very close. IT is a tough environment to build trails but the people who try are alright by me.

I really love these trails, however, they are almost too sandy to ride! I just got back from riding them today and I am dead tired. Great aerobic workout though.

The hurricanes and the fire this year have taken a toll on this trail. The trail is in a great natural setting, but the trail has been mostly deep sand most of the year. Also most of the shade is gone now also, makes for a very hot ride.I can't recommend this trail now, unless you live very close to it.

Customer Service

Follow up: I took some friends & rode Labor Day. We had alot of rain the week before & it was in nice condition. You guys have been working on the sand & it shows. Trail was fun. The free-ride area is still closed, but the double jump now has a large wooden start ramp. That's gonna be sweet when it's done! The lake trail to where it connects to the 7 mile bridge needs some work. Definitely worth the trip if it has rained in the last 2-3 days. Otherwise...Pass!

Hey, What's going on at JD? I was there last month and they've rebuilt the 7 mile bridge. That's good, but what's up with the freeride area? The storms really hammered this trail. Maybe some local riders can leave an update for us on this site. I'd like to come down again when the rest is open.

Most trails are intermediate skill level with one short trail rated "expert". The expert trail is pretty fun, but very short and has lots of sticks and branches lookin to scratch your face (I almost got stuck in the eye). The expert loop also has a sizable drop, and a nice set of stairs. The sand is pretty bad on all trails, but the volunteers that built these trails have put in a lot of log bridges and drops to ease the pain. Most of the trail are pretty slow due to the sand and countless palmetto roots crossing the trail. Overall this is a fun trail with some technical riding and fun stuff.
