Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Association was contacted by Hernando County a time ago to be part of this exciting new project and I have been talking with the powers that be along the way and we are getting closer and they told me it was ok to let the cat out of the bag and spread the word.
That’s right!! The rumors are true. The wheels are in motion to bring Gran Canyon in Brooksville back. Of course we need support from the cycling community to get involved to help bring back one of the best trails in Florida. As many may recall the Gran Canyon is where it all started in the mid 80’s and some of the first MTB races in Fl were held there.
Hernando County has moved forward in looking at options for obtaining the land and implementing a MTB park which will include XC trails as well as a Free Ride and Dirt Jump area.

How can you help???
For now we need everyone in the cycling community to let Hernando County know of our enthusiasm and impact of the reopening as well as the draw of mountain bikers to the area.

support to: StevenD@Hernandocounty.us

Lots of singletrack. By the time its finished there will probably be 40 miles of trails from what people have told me.

Customer Service

Well when you get to the trail there will be maps there and they tell you what trails to ride depending on your skill level.

I also highly recomend the Ocala Hardrock Mt. bike park if you are a very skilled rider. It goes through rock quarrys and over a suspension bridge. I give it on a scale from 1-5 a 6.

It was a decent trail, but is not marked for a complete ride. Would be better if all trails were conected.

When it rains, Gran Canyon is quite muddy, walking the bike up some of these rails is very difficult. There are some really nice downhills for any skill level.
The trails are set up so there is an easy way up a mountain and many ways down. There are even some trails that only the sick would ride down. A helmet is required to ride this trail. It costs 3.00 to ride the trail as well. If you don't have a helmet you can rent one for 2.00.

From orlando-408 to the end. hwy 50 west to munson hill rd Make a right, there will be small homemade signs on the right.

Croom is free and has a nice set up. Last time I was there I hit the two of these trails in one day. While you're out in the Brooksville area, might as well hit em both.

A great place to go for the adrenaline junkie or the masochist! Some really sick hills both up and down as it is in an old rock quarry. Low mileage is a real draw back but I suggest riding here to get your fix and then go down the road to Croom for your workout! God help you if it rains on race day!

Rode this trail a lot a few years ago. It has really gone downhill when 'concerned groups' forced the closing of the best downhill sections. Now a lot of the trails are actually thick grass! Geesh. There are still some cool areas. There trails are never well marked, prepare to retrace your path a couple times to get all the way through. The guy that owns the place is nice and the trails can be fun. You won't go more than a few times a year once you find Ocala Hard and Santos Trailhead, which aren't far.

Trails are not marked in a coherent manner. You end up taking the same trails over and over. Most trails are thick grass. No facilities to speak of. Difficulty of trails vary considerably and you never know what you are getting into until you are there. They just need someone to go out and sign the trails with directions and skill level to make this a worthwhile trip.

Man they need to do some trial maintenance. Trails are not marked clearly and the downhills are very steep and short. Going up is impossible on about 40% of the hills. Single track is covered with grass, vines, leaves. Don't think I'll go back.
