Colorow Trail - Trail, New Castle, Colorado

There are two trailheads used to access the Colorow Trail. Directions for each trailhead are described below.

VIX Ranch Park Trailhead: From the 4 way stop in New Castle, take Castle Valley Boulevard up the hill into Castle Valley. Take a right on North Wildhorse. North Wildhorse ends at VIX Ranch Park. Park here. Ride on North Wildhorse to the west, take a right on Buckskin Circle and another right on Mustang Drive. At the end of Mustang Drive continue straight ahead on look for the Colorow Trailhead sign to access East Colorow. To access West Colorow take the Colorow connector trail to the west that travels behind the houses on your left.

Alder Park Trailhead: From the 4 way stop in New Castle, take Castle Valley Boulevard up the hill into Castle Valley. Take a right on Alder Avenue. The Alder Park trailhead will be on your left. Park here and start your ride on the Alder Park connector trail across the street and to the west. The Alder Park connector trail will join the Colorow connector trail. Going straight at this intersection will connect you with West Colorow, going right will connect you will East Colorow.

The route described here is assuming you are climbing East Colorow. East Colorow starts with a gradual climb behind some homes, steadily climbing to the north. There are a few steep, short climbs. Soon you are faced with a series of steep switchbacks that most riders will walk. Once past the switchbacks you arrive at a nice mellow section traversing around the prominent hill, working to the west. A few more short steep sections and you arrive at the Colorow saddle. From this point you can take a short 0.5 miles detour to your left on the Spur Trail. This is a short, steep trail that ends at an amazing view of New Castle. You can turn around and enjoy the East Colorow back downhill, or you can descend West Colorow. West Colorow starts off as a fast, smooth descent through the trees. Soon you are presented with some rocky technical sections, that some riders will ride, while others may choose to walk. A few technical, rocky switchbacks and you will arrive at a water tower. Descend the double track and arrive at the intersection of the Alder Park Connector and the Colorow Connector. Where you go from here depends on where you started your adventure.
