Dakota Ridge - Trail, Morrison, Colorado

Dakota Ridge - Trail, Morrison, Colorado

DESCRIPTION

Steep, deadly, piss-in-yer-pants material. Singletrack, humongous climbs, and extremly technical riding.

This trail has a little of everything for riders who prefer technical riding. The terrain is very rocky with lots of places to go over the bars...which is always fun. I find the most difficult parts of this trail to be the technical climbing. The decents are pretty straight forward. This trail is not very long, so it can be sectioned off easily. I have never cleared the whole trail.....not even close actually. The only reason I give this trail a 3 is because it is so short. For the length of trail that is there, I give it a 5.

Customer Service

This first time I rode this trail it was from south to north. Big mistake. It was all climbing except for the very end which last about 10 seconds on double track back to the highway. Ride this from north to south. If you want, you can jump on the Red Rocks trail for a good cardio burn. The Red Rocks trail lacks the technical component.

My local favorite!!! Very technical to test your all mountain rig. Not very long and can be done under an hour. Hook it up with the red rocks trail to have a good 2 hour ride. Dakota ridge is less crowded, but red rocks can be so crowded, its not even fun. Weekends are good to avoid. Trail is singletrack and rocks!! The first part is a decent little climb, nothing the intermediate rider can't handle.

Customer Service

Park on the left side of the road across from mathew winters park. Go up obvious doubletrack and ride clockwise descending in to red rocks at end crossing the street.

Amazing! Close to Denver and can be ridden in an hour with the Red Rocks/Mathew Winter Loop! What makes this ride great is that it is 15 from LoDo and will always test you. Not real long or steep but ur not riding it clean! Always maintained! Bad thing is that it eats tires like crazy!

Customer Service

i usually park at the lower lot... or mid lot going to the Theater. That way i save the fun for last.

This was my first time riding Dakota Ridge. I ride Matthew Winters and Morrison Slide a few times a month but had always heard Dakota Ridge was crazy technical. Rode it the other day with a buddy and we both decided that it is our new favorite front range trail. Lots of tricky technical stuff but no really big drops where I felt like I was going to die. It really wasnt as physically demanding as I thought it would be. No real long stretches of going up except for the jeep trail at the start. Lots of angled slick rock which can pose a challenge at times and the series of log steps are pretty tough. Tried it twice and definitely hiked up it. I'd reccomend for any intermediate riders and above. We had a blast

Customer Service

Park at Matthew Winters park, cross the highway to the east and take the obvious jeep trail up. When you go down Dakota Ridge, connect it with the well-marked Red Rocks trail and that will take you back to Matthew Winters parking lot.

Great trail. Challenging if you're riding a hard tail. The uphill is tough because my hardtail doesn't have a lot of ground clearance, but its manageable. Make sure you have at least 70-80mm of front travel or you will run in to trouble. Definitely a technical trail, I wouldn't call it "piss your pants" though.

Customer Service

Depending on how energetic I'm feeling I'll either ride the red rocks/matthew winters trail or I'll go with a buddy and one of us will park a car at the end of the trail and another at the entrance (Makes it a lot easier).

It's technical, but only in a slow, tight rocky way. This is not technical in a big drops, free riding way. None of it's scary or intimidating. In fact the first section isn't even hard, just annoying. It opens up a little better as you go: longer lines that have more flow and less jackhammer sensation.

It's fun after the rough sections start showing linkable lines (the second hill, I think). The climbs are a little weak, one is basically a hiking job (these little roll/stairs done in treated lumber that are really steep and back to back).

Mostly, though, it's hot. Really hot. Fun, but not the best ride.

Customer Service

Link with Red Rocks for a longer ~7-8 mile loop.

This trail is more technical than any in the Fraser Valley. You need to be good at boulders and small drops or you will be walking alot.

Great trail, very rocky and technical. Be sure to loop around to Matthew Winters park and then back to the car. Watch for rattle snakes and sand traps and be sure to bring a spare. ***ANY ONE KNOW WHEN THE SNOW WILL MELT ENOUGH TO RIDE THIS TRAIL? SEEMS LIKE IT GETS LOTS OF EXPOSURE AND WOULD OPEN EARLY.
