No F...n' around, this singletrack is suited to hard core riders! you will probably loose some flesh riding here. there are more 4x4 and singletrack trails created by motoX and trials dirtbikes than you could ride in a year. some to most of the singletrack and 4x4 trails are very very steep and very very technical (and very very fun). the climb is a bitch and not all ridable, but well worth the effort.

Customer Service

take the main 4x4 trail up and keep going up till you're on top of fairview peak and try to ride as much singletrack as possible on the way down.

We hit this trail yesterday. To give an idea of the exremety of these trails, we were out for a few hours and rode under 10 miles. There's a few easy 4wd trails and some really, really sick motorcycle trails. No switchbacks - straight down the fall line! woohoo. The motorcycle stuff is really loose and really rocky. Watch out for motorcycles and other motorized vehicles, as these are pretty much their trails. No bicycle trails, just some really sick, extreme riding. LOTS of fun!! Do not ride here without indisputable technical skills. Not the greatest place to get an aerobic workout, but this is where to come to scare yourself. The only reason I'm not rating at 5 is because there is some unridable climbs that you need to walk.

I went up here last week. I'll probably give it another go in the spring, as I did not come close to exploring the whole area. However, I was not impressed. There is some good riding for sure -- got on a couple of sweet but short singletrack section. But, in the first half mile, I passed aroud 20 people shooting their guns (4 different parties). The last group was shooting from one side of the road, across it, to the other hillside! Would've sucked to come across them while bombing downhill! Got no problem w/ people shooting guns, BUT: 1) the constant sound of semiautomatic weapons fire, loud as hell even when I was miles up the valley, lent a strange and unpleasant atmosphere for the entire 3 hours I was there. 2) No one seems to pick up their shells or target or food debris. There was trash ALL OVER THE PLACE for the first mile or so -- basically until I got off the main 4WD road. Also, the trails, for the most part, are thrashed. Completely washed out and rutted from heavy-handed motorcycle use. Call it extra-technical if you want, but a 12" wide singletrack with a 4" wide by 5" deep trench in the middle is not my idea of fun. There are entire hillsides that are washed out + just sand -- clearly from motorcycles. A 100' wide trail is not cool. Bottom line: a would-be beautiful valley with some crazy lines to ride, BUT, it has been claimed by loser rednecks (and my definition of redneck has a lot more to do w/ leaving trash in the woods than guns or motorcycles) with no regard whatsoever for the landscape. Depressing. I'm afraid I'm going to have to say: let them have it.

this trail is a nasty nasty uphill, with a screamin downhill, be in good condition. not a trail for a beginner thats fosure.

Customer Service

start where lefthand canyon rd. splits in two, theres a small parking spot on the left, look for the trail across the street, carry your bike up a 20ft.ascent . then begin riding the sinlgetrack ,follow it till it turns to 4x4 then stay on 4x4 for 5 switchbacks.4x4 splits in 3 directions, take the middle 4x4,climb a grueling 1mile ascent.look for 4x4 that goes off to hard left, get on it and rocket down some superfast 4x4/singletrack,it goes in an out of singletrack, make a left back out on the road, its about 2 miles to the car.

I made the mistake of posting this trail network. Now for safety reasons I'm looking for someone to ride/explore more trails up here with. No BS'ing I'll average 2-3 hours per ride with slightly over half of that being spent climbing (about 1/3rd pushing). The pay-off is great downhilling and incredible views of front range. I get off work at 4 and try to be there by 5 (weekdays). I'm not up for baby sitting so don't respond if you can't hold your own on hairy/scary trails.

Customer Service

aint tellin, but it looks like Rich is on to it. There ARE ways to completely avoid the redneck shooters and 4x4's.

sweet ride. ride for like 1 1/2 miles styaing on the main part of the 4x4 road, you come to a sweet viewpoint where you can see denver and boulder, go like 100 ftand go right, this will take you all over, just stay on the main part again, ride for a ways, it forks again, stay in the middle or right, don't go left, it sucks, then just ride, nice single track, you come to some rock stacks, stay left, you come to a sweet single track, then you canride back to 87 by the dirt road. you'll prolly run into me, 2000 gt aggressor. is labelled as expert or something, but i have only been riding for like 5 months, and i can ride all of it. maybe i am good, ha ha

Customer Service

go past jamestown to cr 87. ride up it. when you get to the top it forks, go left, ride this for a few miles. you come to lots of no trespassing signs and a couple gates, they are fake, just keep on the road until you pass a second gate, there it turns to a 4x4 road. just follow the road for a long time, it forks all over, just pick a route, it's not too hard to get lost, jsut retrace if you do

To lessen the confusion, Jordan (previous posting) is talking about an entirely different area... I know of what he's describing, it's good and fun, but somewhat limited compared to the lefthand trails. It's also one hell of a haul up cr87=no fun to ride up. To most people, initially the REAL Lefthand Trails seem like crap, you just gotta get past (read lot's of shitty climbing and pushing your bike) the shooters and lower 4x4 area to access the good stuff. To my knowledge, there are no accurate descriptions of any of these trails in particular, I just know 'em. The good thing is that this area is mostly southern faces and open intermittently throughout the winter depending on snow conditions.

Customer Service

Go to the top of the hill, if the trail still goes up, you ain't there yet.

This trail is pretty fun, if you don't mind a little backwoods navigating. The downhill that I found is probably the best in the front range area, although I don't know if I could find it again. I eventually ended up riding beside/in a creek and then through some guys back yard. He seemed cool about it though like he has seen bikers come out of there before. Try this one if you are an advanced rider and tired of riding the open space parks around Boulder.

Customer Service

Up to ward road, cross the stream, then down.
