Lair o' the Bear - Trail, Idledale/Morrison, Colorado

Lair o' the Bear - Trail, Idledale/Morrison, Colorado

DESCRIPTION

This is not an overly difficult trail.. It is an out and back with moderate climbs, nice smooth singletrack with a few relatively easy techy sections. The trail rolls up and down through three Jeffco park including Lair, Corwina and Pence Parks.. If you just want to get out quickly after work this a good trail. Nice views and some nice rolling uphills and downhills. A good beginner trail to take a date on.. Wouldnt go on weekends.. Not worth the crowds..

Nice trail but heads up for the trail bike security, I'm never riding this trail again because of the ego and demeanor. This particular bike security fella was so offended that I passed him and he didn’t hear me let him know I was passing. The trail was about 8 ft wide, flat, his coworker heard me & they were going at a walking pace. After he rode out and cut me off, he said “You are being pulled over by a law enforcement officer” Not cool when you’re just looking for a good fun

I love the LOB trail. You can bust it out in just over an hour M-F, so it is great for an after work ride. It is fast and fun. Be careful of traffic on the w/e's, especially when you are coming down the final downhill section which also happens to be the first climb. It is an out and back ride. I really like this trail on my SS...makes it a little more difficult.

Customer Service

Same as the others. Out and back.

What do LOTB and Mopeds have in common? They're both a blast to ride, but don't let your friends see you.

If you just want to cruise buff single and doubletrack, get a mild 500' elevation gain workout, keep cool in the forest and rail hi-speed turns, then you'll love LOTB. Very fun trail, flowy and swoopy with three small armored sections, one tough switchback, and tons of berms. Nothing too technical.

Otherwise, if ya just gotta bring the pain for the pleasure, ride up Falcon, loop into Parmalee counterclockwise, roll back up to and through top Falcon parking area, and back down road to LOTB downhill (Trail entrance marked by yellow hiker sign on the right).

Sheer Fun - Up and back LOTB/Bear Creek Trail

Arse kicker w/ nice finish - Up Falcon, Parmalee loop, LOTB downhill, Margs at Morrison Inn or breakfast burritto at Blue Cow

I just rode this trail for the first time and it was a blast. Saw 15-20 deer throughout the ride. Less crowded than Matthew Winters or Apex. A good change from the loose rock, staight up, and straight down. Good cover for shade on really hot days. Great scenery. I can tell you that this ride was one of my favorite in all of Colorado, next to Betasso Preserve outside of Boulder!

Customer Service

I rode Bear Creek trail out and back.

Fun, easy and fast. Decent climb but can get packed. Becuase of it's difficulty (or lack thereof) you will confront slower bikers and hikers. Great place to take beginner mtn bikers. You're really gonna want to ride this fast but it's very hard due to crowds.

Customer Service

Park at the Lair of the Bear trial head 4 miles west of Morrison. Follow the trail along the river to the Bear Creek Trail on the left. Ride about 5 miles to the paved road at the top and turn around and come back.

It was great workout with good scenery and nice mix of sun and shade. The climb got the heart going, but the downhill was rather uneventful if you like hitting some jumps.

Customer Service

Follow the creek and head up.

Great trail, the ride from the Lair O' the bear to Pence is s good climb, only a couple of tech spots, but doable by most. The climb is a good workout, the return trip down is a blast. add the lair of the beat loop to the pence park, and you can almost get 14 miles in.

Customer Service

Lair O' the bear parking lot, up the creek to the pence park trail, up to the road crossing, back dowm toward the parking lot, cross the creak and the lair of the bear loop back to the car.

Want an early season ride or not looking for your typical front range gut buster? Warm up with 5 minutes of flat along the creek and check out the castle somebody built (really, it is a castle). Then head upwards with enough incline to get the blood flowing, some flats here and there to catch your breathe, more gradual up with one semi challenging technical rock climb and lastly you end up at the highway.

Customer Service

Skip riding to Mt Falcon. The best option is to start at the LoB lot ride to the top, turn back and enjoy the ride down.

This is a fun trail, great to do as a connection with Mount Falcon. The ride up isn't that hard, even for a pansy girl. I took a date on this trail, and HE didn't complain much. But I didn't get any either. Hmmmmm.

Customer Service

Park in Morrison, ride up Mt. Falcon, then ride up the main road (there are a few turns) and get on the trail (don't slow down!) across the road from Pence Park. Do Lair o the Bear from the top, all the way down Bear Creek trail, then ride the highway down back into Morrison and drink margaritas at the Morrison Inn. You still have a little bit of climbing doing it this way (and of course, you just climbed Falcon).

I disagree that this trail is a good one to take a first date on. The uphill will kick her ass and you wont get any that night. This trail is much improved since the days before the addition of the Pence trail. It will be tempting for some to get to the end of the uphill part at Pence and then take the road back. That would be a big mistake. The best part is riding this back down to the parking lot. I saw a couple of guys do just what I described and they really missed the point.

Customer Service

I would not bother with the loop on the other side of the creek. Simply start at the Lower parking lot like the description says and keep going to the fence. When you get there you will see the Bear Creek Trail cut back to the left. Take it.
