Snow Mt Ranch- YMCA of the Rockies - Trail, Granby, Colorado

Snow Mt Ranch- YMCA of the Rockies - Trail, Granby, Colorado

DESCRIPTION

Private Property, and so very little traffic. It ca get very muddy in the spring, but dries up by July. This is a Cross Country Ski Resort, so most main trails are fairly wide, and if you lookaround you'll find some singletrack. I suggest getting directions and a map before riding here, because this place is huge!

Many short single track trails but overly connected by ski (jeep) trails and clear cuts. The clear cutting in the last 3 years has been over done and has nearly ruined 10s of miles of nice single track. Two of the best single track trails to the waterfall and up 9 Mile (Little Sheep) mountain are marked no biking.

There's some great potential if people with just a little trail building experience could clear and re-route proper trails connecting some of the terrain that hasn't been clear cut. IMBA help!

There are 1000s of acres, no ATVs, and some great views but the trails are mostly cut wide for skiers. Horse trails from the livery are ok aside from erosion and poop.

Heckman, Milligan, Cramner, Old Lynch, 9 Mile, Endo, Peter's Trail, and (what's left of) Slim Jim.

The grind up Blue Ridge is mediocre but the view at the top of Summit County peaks is a nice pay off. A few single track options off the road are fun. This is the best bet when the valley is soaked. Can also ride over into Crooked Creek drainage back to Fraser too.

Take the tunnel under highway 40 over to Sol Vista and climb up around the downhill course.

Wouldn't it make sense to have some trails built for the next time a race comes to town?

I would recommend that you go up Blue Ridge, to the top at 12K feet up Sheep Mountain, that ride (if it is allowed) during the winter is the best ski I have done, it take 1.5-2.0 hours to go to the top and then on Xcountry boards it is one of the funnest (is that a word) skies down, it takes 20 minutes to get down. Just the wayto 'cool' down after a 2.0 hour workout. Wonderful, make sure you can get to the lodge quickly especially in the AM or at night, it is cold up there, really cold. Skiing up it during the winter with a full moon is amazing, I have done the night skiing (I used to work there too) after hours, and off the lit trails, and it is soooo much fun, it is hard to explain, cold, hard to see (make sure you have clear glasses and at least a cap for the noggin.

Just go where you want, it is completely open and where you are allowed will be marked. If not don't worry, you are on 6700 acres of some of the nicest property in the Middle Park Valley. It is lovely, I know because I live 2 miles from it.

Lots of other trails, just go up and into the back country in the summer and you will find lots of places to single and double track. Winter park area is the best for what it is, high country Rocky mountain mtn biking.
