Like many other front range trails steep and rocky climbs are the norm with some challenging (annoying) switchbacks, but great technical and rocky trail. Enchanted Forrest is an awesome treat through a seemingly lush wooded area. Just make sure you ride this trail on an even calendar day otherwise no descent through EF.

Customer Service

Evan days: Up Apex, down EF, up Sluicebox, clockwise through Grubstake, down Pick n Sledge back to Apex and then down. Odd days: some other park

This is some awsome single track that is close to town, has plenty of tasty technical goodness and is very scenic. Unfortunately it's close proximaty to the metro area means that it is very heavily trafficed and I happen to be one of those weenies that feels compelled to stop and let hikers have the right of way which means I'm constantly having to stop. Wonderful trail but way to much hiker traffic.

this trail has been well summarized but i wanted to note the trail usage change as of 2010; on odd numbered days 3 segments ov the trail can only be biked on in one direction (this is all odd numbered days, not just weekends). on odd days part ov the Apex trail can only be biked up on, meaning that to return to the bottom you have to create a loop by going up the sluicebox switch backs, also on odd days the enchanted forest section is one-way. the third segment affected had not been built when i was there a few days ago. here's a link to the official pdf - http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/jeffco/openspace_uploads/trail_use_changes_at_apex_park.pdf

i find the trails to be technical due to small sections ov rock outcropping that are a great challenge. also many ov the switchback turns have diagonal wood going across them which i found difficult up or down but again a great challenge. wonderfully one can create a 45min ride here or a 3hr ride by taking all trail options (being an average rider it took me 3 hours to do Grubstake, Enchanted Forest then PicknSledge back, not pushing the pace much). also the conditions vary nicely with many hot, sunny, dusty sections and some shaded, tree root, compact dirt sections.
i've never ridden past lookout mountain road.

Customer Service

i recommend Apex to PicknSledge to Grubstake loop, the northern section ov Grubstake loop is shaded forest and if taken counter clockwise it is a rolling section finished by a challenging switchback climb but clockwise it would be a shaded technical decent fallowed by fun rolling. which ever route you take then go to the Sluicebox and head down to the Apex trail to the Enchanted Forest which will end near the top ov the Apex trail. i prefer to descend the Apex trail the entire way but now on odd days you'll hav to go back up Sluicebox at which point i take the PicknSledge route back but it could be a good chance to take Grubstake loop the opposite direction than you came to create a long ride.

I just got a chance to do Apex and loop back on enchanted forest and it was a great ride. Super in your face for the first 2 miles with technical uphill challenges. then it tapers off and when your mind starts to wander it hits you with another short steep or uphill technical section. Good workout. Then enchanted forest for a mostly downhill ride that differs from the dry uphill you just ascended. Fun frim singletrack with several drops, roots, and quick turns. Watch out for other trrail users on Apex.

Customer Service

Not sure about the others but Apex to enchanted for a quick workout on all the senses was great for me.

Great fun and a good heart thumper. Rode it with Kelly P and there are some really fun and challenging sections on the climb. It made me mad when I didn't negotiate the correct line and pushed the last few feet of a few sections. Some really tough short rocky sections that make for fun competition among fellow riders. Bottom line you will be smiling the entire time. I was having so much fun I didn't really notice if there was a view. Some areas are exposed but shade is usually just around the corner. We hit it early Saturday morning and the trail was crowded on the way down. The enchanted forest downhill is one of my all time favorites. I wish it was longer. Good technical sections up and down. Watch the crowds go early.

Customer Service

we didn't do pick and sledge so we rode in on Apex and out the enchanted forest.

I really enjoy this trail. It is close to town and I can ride it with a limited amount of time. There is just enough technical to add some challenge but not enough to keep me pushing my bike. If I could ever make it up that steep rocky section. I have come extremely close, but I'm not there yet!

Customer Service

I usually take the same route. I take the main trail up to Pick N' Sledge. I than take a right on Pick N' Sledge and go to Grubstake Loop. I go up Grubstake and hang a left on Bonanza Trail. I than take Bonanza back to Pick N' Sledge and back to where I came from. It usually takes me an hour to an hour and a half.

UNDERRATED. Apex is a GREAT trail network and close to town. The downhill on Enchanted Forest doesn't last long, but while it does it's arguably one of the funnest little sections of trail in Colorado.

Apex does get crowded with a lot of hikers and is best ridden outside of peak user times. Take it slow going down the main Apex trail - much better options for letting it rip exist elsewhere in the park.

Customer Service

Up Apex Trail, loop EF, up Sluice Box, down Pick 'N' Sledge.

Enchanted Forest is slowly being cleaned up. A lot of trees down as of yesterday about half the trail had been cleared.

This is a great trail because it is so close to Denver and it really challenges me. Because this trail is so close I probably ride it too much. If I could only make it up that darned rock face right before Pick N' Sledge with out stopping! I'm getting much closer. I love to views.

Customer Service

I love to go down Apex trail to Pick N' Sledge. Than I wind up Pick N' Sledge to Bonanza trail. Than I take Bonanza trail around and go back down Pick N' Sledge (the same way I came up) back to Apex trail.

I love this trail. Soo close to Denver and can be done in a short time. Great for after work and also after riding in the mtns all day, on your way back home hit this trail for once last leg burn before the day is over!! In the fall you will be herds of Elk, dear and rattle snaks so be careful. Very lose and rocky. Awsome downhill.

Customer Service

I like to take the lookout mtn trial and then head down Apex and bomb it. I reached 28mph on a 5 inch trail bike with a few of my professional riders in front of me!! This trail is great to train on as well in the early season!!
