Joe's Ridge - TRAIL

Joe's Ridge - Trail, Fruita, Colorado

Have you ever played the game Marble Madness? This trail is my favorite trail on planet Earth. It's by far the most fun I've ever had on a mountain bike. This is a wakeup call to everyone: Drive to Fruita, get directions to the 18 Road trails, and ride this. Just play Marble Madness and you'll know how great Joe's Ridge is.

Very short thrill ride. I was expecting more, didn't get it and had to turn around and ride it again. If you are camped at 18rd you can do laps in the evening.

Customer Service

Up Prime Cut and over 18rd to the Frontside Edge loop, up the short steep section to Joe's. It's easy to miss the turn coming this direction. Just remember it's the very first left turn.

Joe's is a blast. Yes, it's short, but that means you can do it more than once. Only a small amount of climbing is required, then it's as fast as you want it to be on the way down. There's an awesome descent about midway through that is super fast, twisty, and even has a couple jumps at the bottom. After that it's more flow all the way to a fire road where you can hit Kessel and jam down to the lower parking lot.

Customer Service

Take Frontside from the upper parking lot to Joe's, and then finish up on lower Kessel.

RIDE this trail under a full moon. It's awesome! The shrubery contrasts easily against the light colored soil. The first time we did it we were dared and a little drunk, but I've been riding it every year since when we camp there and it is so much fun. You don't even need a headlamp. During the day it's a great ride too. It hooks up with tons of other great rides or you can lap it till you're out of gas. It never gets dull or busy.

Customer Service

From camp hop right in or from the parking lot go to the end of 18 road and drop in or take Prime Cuts from the parking lot to Joe's Ridge

Great Fun! Off the charts COOL FACTOR. Too short, though. But, there are plenty of enjoyable trails accessible from the trailhead, enough to keep you happy for the day. Very much worth experiencing. See Pete Fagerlin's video at: http://www.mtbvideos.net/video/joesridge.mpg The ONLY reason I rate this trail less than 5 is because of its length. One more thing. Fruita is a great place. Stay there and you won't regret it. Check out Over the Edge Cycles in the middle of town. They have knowledgeable and helpful folks who are more than willing to suggest trails based on your skill/aerobic level.

Customer Service

Up Prime Cut, down Joes Ridge (really fun), connect with the lower section of Kessel Run for a hang-on-to-your-shorts type of fast run.

Okay, so this was fun but I find this trail a little overrated. To tell you the truth, the whole road 18 area is overrated. Don't get me wrong, the trails are fun (re: Zippety/Chutes/Joes etc.) but they are not as great as everyone seems to think. Joes was short and a little drab. There were a few fun sections but the majority of the trail was a bore. I guess I got my hopes up...

Get a trail report from the bike shop. If the trails are sandy/dusty, this trial loses a LOT of its charm. Last time I rode the trail my front tire plowed due to the deep dust/sand. I ended up behind the seat working the bike (which is fun, but not what i expected). Arguably the best part of the ride is the climb after leaving the campground.

This is a sick trail! Fun in every sense of the word, and as fast as you want to dare go. There's a section with a long, steep, technical downhill (luckily it's the really black, nutrient-rich dirt that you wouldn't expect to find in the desert area of Fruita), where on either side of you there's a 60-foot slide down the hill. It probably wouldn't hurt you too badly, but you're definitely scared of it. Joe's Ridge rules!

What a great ride! The BEST short circuit singletrack that I have ever been on. If you are in the area, you must stop in and just do it. It is about 2.75 miles, and takes less than 15 minutes to do a loop.

Customer Service

Start from the top, and go downhill!

First trip to Fruita. Made the mistake of riding clockwise (uphill)- several uprideable climbs (too loose) so lots of hike-a-bike. Ride it downhill, it's awesome awesome tight singletrack with exposure and drops.

Wheeha! My favorite trail in Fruita! Hang it off the back, and don't forget to shift into a little gear before the descent. Hook it up with Frontside or Chutes and Ladders and rock and roll!
