Up and down. Short and sweet.

Trail offers a good workout and can be ridden completely without taking up a good portion of the day.

We usually stay at the United Campground in Durango, and it's closeby.

Well this trail is only a few blocks from my house and I do have to say it has awesome views of both town and the mountains, (once you get past the top). However, I think it is a bit exposed to the sun and much too hot to ride in the summer any time past early morning. I have only ridden the whole thing once and really, thats enough, there are so many better trails in Durango to enjoy yourself on. When I want a good I mean intense workout I go and ride part of the trail then kick over into sailing hawks for a real technical type of ride minus the endless climbing. If you want to grunt, ride Animas, if you want fast pace fun go to another of the many trails in Durango.

The trail starts out with a steep climb or you can use a second route with switch backs. After getting up the first leg most riders go counter-clock wise to the top. There are some techneical spots with some loose rocks and a couple of ledges. These are not very impossing and only begginer riders will have a tough time. The downhill is ripping fast, with some air time over the water bars. Sqeeze on your brakes a lot because crashs are no fun.

Customer Service

Counter clock wise after the first steep climb.

I remember riding that trail when I was about 12 or 13 years old. That was ten years ago. It was the only trail I ridden in the Durango area. I would like to try some other trails in the Durango area sometime in the future. It was pretty fun I remember, I really liked the downhill and it was very technical. The climb was hard and wasn't too bad. I came down all the way from central Utah with my brothers and rode Road Apple Trail in Farmington,NM and a trail in Durango. Went to Farmington like five times and Durango twice. I really liked the trips and had a lot fun. I had good memories about it.

Customer Service

Went up the part that had switchbacks and went counterclockwise I think.

Depending on what the weather has been doing, this trail is either rocky or really freakin' rocky. I almost always get a pinch flat so either pump up those tires or bring an extra tube just in case.

The trail is situated on a slanting mesa at the north end of Durango. From the top you can look out over the Animas valley and the town of Hermosa to the North. The view is incredible!

Although this trail is steep it really could be ridden by almost anyone in good shape if they have the patience to cruise up this sucker in granny gear. Once your skills imporove though the ride takes less than an hour and can easily be done after work or school. Another nifty thing about this trail is all the fourwheel drive barriers which make perfect jumps. But be careful because with all the rocks you could be hurting on the re-entry.

Customer Service

I always go up the peds trail at first until it forks off into two distinct trails. From there I take to right fork of the bike trail and proceed around until I come back to where I started.

I made the mistake of riding this trail on a very hot day. Serious mistake. It's a very steep climb, and very rocky. This is an example of why the mtb riders from Durango are so tough. You have to be in seriously good shape to enjoy this trail (I wasn't). But if I lived in Durango, I'd ride it alot and enjoy it more.

I have ridden this loop a couple of times while passing thru on a roadie from the east coast. It is a short loop, but it is a blast. The climb up kicked my sea-level butt, but I loved the return trip w/ all the waterbars. The views from the top are epic as well.

Customer Service

I have only ridden it clockwise.

I lived in durango for a while and can honestly say this is on of the worst rides in the area unless you like ridding rock strewn fireroads. There are so many other great rides, it seems pointless to ride this
