I rode this trail Aug.31, 2013 on a very rainy, chilly day and the only reason I write this is to warn you that in such conditions this trail is a muddy handful.
I'd pick a shorter less traveled trail if it's raining next time. Duh...

Customer Service

Clockwise as a shuttle from the top.

Much has been written about this trail that there is hardly anything more to add, except that it seems to me that it is little overrated overall, as are some other trails in CB area.
I come to Colorado almost every year, crisscross the Rocky Mountains region and must admit that I like the trails in Summit County, Steamboat Springs area and Monarch Crest much more, including scenery. Try them out and see for yourself.

This trail definately lives up to its reputation. The views are insane and there are very few places in the country where you can get those elevations to mtn bike. The climb is consistant but not too difficult, however, the last section can be a challenge, especially if you're not used to the elevation. But the downhill is smooth and fast and not too technical. This trail alone is definately worth the trip to CB.

Take the fire road up to the top of the pass, hop on the singletrack and rip it downhill...

Super nice ride. Taking Gothic road from town makes for some long climbing wich carries on into the trail briefly. Then comes some screaming downhill. My disc brakes would sizzle when crossing streams. Summary= Long climb+great views + screaming downhills+ stream crossings+ technical, all make for the perfect ride.

I just want to add my name to the very long list of folks who consider this ride to be one of the greatest single tracks in the known universe. This is not a technical, scary or difficult trail by any means. It's not even too much of a lung-buster if you're acclimated to the altitude. But if gorgeous red mountains, wildflowers up to your chin and a 25 mph descent on smooth single track sounds like fun to you, then this is THE trail. If the thin air doesn't take your breath away, the views will. RIDE THIS TRAIL!

All of them. CB is a great biking town and one of the places where mountain biking as we know it evolved. While you're there, check out the biking museum.

What a great trail. although you do have to put in a little effort climbing up to the ridge it's all worth it on the way down. zig zagging its way down the mountainthrough flowers as high as your hadlebars, This trail has challenges for even the best riders including the difficult shale creek maneuver and the tight turns on the switchbacks. This is a must ride trail for any mountain bike rider.

I rode the trail in august 2005 and I was probably the only guy from europe who rode it this year. For somebody from europe this trail must be unique: the height, the distance to any sort of city, there is so much space here. The trail itself is spectaculous, to say the least. But I missed the technical challenges, as it is mostly a roller and you find yourself cruising at 25mph - again something pretty unknown in good old europe.

Customer Service

I would recommend to ride all the way from CB out and back, as even the gravel road is worth the sweat.

This trail is simply about as picturesque and utopian as an an alpine singletrack style trail can get. i was lucky enough to hook up with some people who were getting a buddy to shuttle us all the way up to Schofield Pass, so that we only had to climb the singletrack, and not the miles and miles on the road. Even had i had to climb all that, it would have been TOTALLY worth it for the simply postcard-like scenery, and the killer descent. I would say that the one ride i did on this trail was one of the best rides i've ever done. Crested Butte really is a hidden secret of colorado.

Another Top Ten ride. Pretty mellow but vigorous climb up Gothic Road to Schofield Pass, singletrack climb is painful but do-able. A few more climbing re-routes have been worked, another season to season the trail will make it even better. The singletrack is ripping. Great scenery, got to stop a few times to enjoy the views. Otherwise you'll sail out into blue sky at 25 miles per hour. The second section of trail is more of a grunt, a couple of steep climbs, not quite as fun, but remains fun. At the end, I wonder if you can traverse above Gothic and continue on the Deer Creek Trail out to Brush Creek.

Customer Service

401 to Deer Creek and back to town would tear one up. I intended to ride 401, then back up to 403, and then down past Gothic to Deer Creek and around and up Teocali Ridge. I blew up after Deer Creek.
