Austin Bluffs - Trail, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Austin Bluffs - Trail, Colorado Springs, Colorado

DESCRIPTION

Single track and service roads. A little bit of everything; sand, hardpack and pavement. Moderate climbing and some fast sections. The trail is what you make of it, but the long loop takes you towards Nevada and around Pulpit Rock. Please be considerate and make sure you close the horse gate when you go through. The trail ends back in a neighborhood. Once back in you find your way to Vickers Dr. and ride out. Bicycle Village is right there at Vickers and Academy to help you back to your car if your a little lost.

Just rode this trail for the first time despite living here for 6 years (this time around). I dropped my car off at La Montana Way and rode my bike home to Rockrimmon. Hit the trail at the traffic circle at University and Academy. Pretty nice trail. Mostly beginner/intermediate singletrack, but didn't get a chance to loop it as I hit Ute Valley Park on the way home after crossing I-25. Seems like a park you could have a nice ride in, but I would suggest looking at google maps to get a good overhead view as, like all other parks in C Springs, you can get on a branch that will spit you out into some neighborhood.

Looks like you could start out at the Baseball fields off of Nevada - good parking and looks easy to get back to.

If you cross Nevada and go down the bike path next to Costco, you end up on the main bike trail. Take it to Mark Dabling and head to the Marriott, just to the left of the hotel is a trailhead for Ute Valley...

Great Intermediate/beginner trail system. Gives you a little bit of everything. Could be a little bit longer but still a fun ride. I take the long route that takes you around pulpit rock. Gives you just enough to be happy, but short enough to keep you wanting more.

I start at the Montebello Dr. trailhead. Follow the trail west, at your first intersection of trails break left. From there find a thin single track on your right in the trees that takes you up a hill and then down some speedy single track. Make your way to the small gate and go through, you should be right near the river bed. From there cross the river bed and head west on the forest road. Go through the horse gate, closing it behind you. Climb till you get to the single track on your left, I take the second one. You should be able to see Nevada and Four Diamonds softball park. This loops around Pulpit rock spire. Follow this around and through the next intersection of trails, down and around till you hit another forest road. Head east till you hit another couldesac, right next to a home. Down the street, hang an right and find Vickers Dr. Road it till you get to Saxon Dr. Hang a right and head past Bicycle Village and Bally's swim and fitness hang a left and then another at the stop sign and you're on your way back to Montebello. The trail is what you make of it, add or subtract, it's still fun. Enjoy the ride
