This is a very fun trail that I ride all the time. The more you ride it the faster it gets. Watch out for rocks in the middle of the trail. When you get going quick enough you can stay high in the turns and it makes it a lot more fun. I like to get to the trail from Squirel Chase.

Toads is a long wash that that has walls any where from 15 feet to 30 feet high on each side.To get through the fastest you ride up the wall going around the corners. The SSFTA runs downhill races through it every winter.

Customer Service

Park at the Sherrif's shooting range at Hart Park. I like to ride up toads from the bottom if it's not to busy of a day.

the trail starts out in single track and eventually goes into a twisty, rock infested ditch-like trail for about one or two miles, its great fun and if done fast, will get the adreniline in ya going. be carefull though, i've seen people knock themselves out on this trail and have come close to it a few times myself. if you do go fast on it stick to the walls and lean into the turns as much as possible.

Customer Service

Park at the shooting range hill, you can go up the trail but i personally do not recomend it, theres always people going down it, mtb and motorcycles, i dont think it would be much fun kissing the front of a honda 250, or a guy(or chick)on a schwinn.

The actual name of the "gully" is the Squirrel chase(please correct me if i am wrong!). Back in '87 a fat tire time trial, involving hang glider hill and the wash that dumps out at the shooting range, was called "The knuckle clincher and squirrel chase". This is one of the better East Bako rides. It is just as good going up as it is to come down! There are alot of cool "wash drop" entries along the way, just explore.

Customer Service

Riding to the shooting and making the loop described above is the easiest if you are not to familiar...it has been about eleven years since i've been on it!

This downhill is a lot of fun. It winds through a washout carved into the hills with really high walls on both sides. It's got a lot of rocks and a lot of banking turns. (Best if you go fast) It's not a cruise through the park. It's a fast, adrenaline pumping ride that might freak you out the first time. It's fun to see how high you can bank up on the walls coming around the turns. Lots of fun if you ride after it rains (if you like getting wet)

Customer Service

From the Shooting range go up the hill or take a truck if your not a climber. When you get to the top head left and look for a singletrack and probably some other riders.

B17 a Freerider not a Downhiller   [Jan 15, 2001]

This ride is sweet, alot like a rollercoaster the way you can rail down this canyon. Some very nice freeriding here! But NO trees, but then again its Bakersfield the armpit of California!!

Customer Service

Ride the road not the trail up....or you will die!!

Very nice area. Lots to do if your a freerider/downhiller. Nothing for XC guys. Take anyone of the canyon trails down for some speeeedy fun. Go to the playground if you want to jump and do some drops. The DH races here in the winter/fall are always fun!

Customer Service

You can get there a million different ways. They all go to the same place.

Used to ride this trail atleast once a week if not more.Haven't been back to Baketown since 98. It was a decent trail, but it was getting alot of use and the best parts were getting worn down. Definitly intermediate skill level, not very technical, just fast and tight once you dropped into the ravine. Don't even need a FS bike for it. Used to fly down it on a hardtail. Advanced toads(son of toads??) was a much better trail.

Customer Service

Start your ride at the elementary school, that way you can drop into toads from the top.
