Pisgah Peak - TRAIL

Pisgah Peak - Trail, Yucaipa, California

Good, steep fire road the whole five mile climb from Wildwood Park. A few ruts, bust mostly good, hard dirt. Close to the peak you will see the little town of Oak Glen nestled in the mountains on your left. Once you get to the peak you will be able to descend on tough, steep single track back where you started, or drop down more fire road on the back side of Pisgah into the town of Oak Glen. This ride is an excellent training climb that gives an experienced rider about 1.25 hours of pure climbing. The views of the Inland Empire and The Pass are excellent. Wildwood Park is about 2800 feet altitude. Pisgah Peak is about 5300 feet altitude.

Pisgah is an unforgiving steep climb. However, it's in a beautiful area and gets the legs and lungs prepared for your upcoming race like no other trail. As an update, the beginning mile or so of dirt trail are now state park. There are a few marked single track trails in this park area that will get you nice and warm for your wicked ascension up the peak. There is plenty of wildlife to spot. I see bobcats, rabbits, snakes, h0rny toads, and an occasional bear or deer. The water tower towards the top provides a great viewpoint for the pass area and inland empire. Keep going past the red gate near the water tank and you will get a great view of Oak Glen. All in all Pisgah Peak is for an experienced rider that simply wants to improve climbing speeds and get their resting heart rate below 50.

A good hard training fireroad. Expect a nice, smooth-packed consistant uphill grind right to the top. 2500' elevation in six miles from the park below to the top will get the sweat out of you. Look for great views, a well maintained trail with an outstanding downhill refresher when you decide to turn around. In-shape riders will get to the "gate" in less than an hour. This is one afternoon training hill that will be the measuring stick for all the rest of your riding all season. You'll want to brag to your friends that you did Pisgah...
