Squaw is a ski resort that allows mountain biking in the summer. The trails go down some of the ski runs, and can get pretty fast. However, a lot of it is quite gravel-y and traction can get a little sketchy so if you like flying down a mountain barely in control, this ride is for you. If you climb at the top of the lift, there are some more relaxing rides with better scenery...

Like Genex says, Squaw is really a ski resort that opens us during the summer for mt biking. After riding NorthStar a couple of time I was disappointed. With the exception of one very challenging technical single track that is located underneath High Camp on the way to the Siberia Express chair, Squaw lacks any real "trails". The majority of time is spent bombing down the main Moutain Run. It's a long run (3+ miles) but not much fun for bikers looking for the killer single tracks. After about 4 runs I think I had more fun lounging by the pool checking out the traditional Squaw Valley babes! Use the $26 bucks and hit NorthStar or Salmon Falls near Folsom Lake. Squaw should stick to the winter steeps until they spend some time and bucks creating some real mt biking single tracks. Also, the staff is really an off season crew. Not even close to the quality of service I'm accustom to during the winter season.

This so called we're-resting-on-our-laurels ski resort is a pathetic shameless attemp to cater to a growing undenible mountain biking force in nature. The promise of the so-call cough free uphill ride was even lame due to the fact the mountain biking force had to share their space with foolish hiking mortals. the true sadness lies in the apparent lack of simple respect of nature's most coveted prize - dirt. the resort was packed with the mountain biker's worst nightmare - rocks the side of grandma's adam apple and loose as a jock's intellect. hopefully, the most obvious lack of customers will force this disney supported resort to either close the hell they call a mountain biking park or really make any effort to applease the moutain biking force that will change the face of humanity. yeah.

The Western States trail is a long loop that is easlity accessed from Squaw resort, not reccomended lots of horse travel on this, or even better across 89 down the Truckee river off the Bike Path. Climb up to Painted rock and descend for a out and back or continue out to Tahoe City of WST. This trail was real fun, big elevation gain and lots of twisty switchback to enjoy. Not technical in the East Coast way but still difficult at speed and the elevation makes it hard (6200' to 8700ish'). Enjoy the dry fluffy at times trail, killer views and nice rich woods. Pretty fun, load up on water and chow and ride it tillyou can't any longer. Very fun. Check out The Back Country Shop in Tahoe City, pretty cool guys and generous with trail knowledge.

Similar Products Used: Squaw Vally is cool to ride at. NOt much up top, small loops to do. Climb up to Palisades for the view, killah, and then descend down THE MTN Bike Trail. Nice long descent from High camp to Base (2000') Rocky and loose and switchy. Cool. Screw the tram, rip off, ride your lazy ass to the top and work for something. Not a lift access mountain bike park.SMile man.

I've ridden this place twice at the insistence of friends. If you are looking to ride at a ski resort in tahoe, go to northstar.

Take highway 89 back to 80, then 267 to Northstar.

Years and years ago this place was entertaining when I was 14, had my kid brother (9) and my dad on his old school hard bike.

I have ridden down the back to Shirley Lake, which was cool back in the day. However, this place is a lot like it is in the winter. Lots of people with no clue, a ski/bike patrol who think they are the mountain Nazis, high prices, and every dingle berry from CA telling you how great their state is.

I rode this place last summer just for fun as I had a free pass. I wore my "Fu*k California" shirt and my wife wore her "Die Yuppie Scum" t-shirt (circa 1986) and we didn't make a lot of friends.

Spend the money at North Star or just learn to ride up hill. If you're on your 45lb gravity sled, then NS is the place to go. Better vibe, you can ride into your grave, and so much more to ride.

Squaw should take notes. Or just pack it in.
