summit trail - TRAIL

summit trail - Trail, Sonoma-Glen Ellen, California

Most of it is fire trail but great views and hard to reach the summit. I say intermediate because you have to be in great shape to reach the top without stopping or else any one can ride it with a few stops.

I used to ride this trail at least once a week when I was living in Sonoma. We used to park the car at the bottom of Glen Ellen and ride up the paved hill to get to Jack London State Park. The trail has a variety of challenges. It can be muddy, rocky, technical but most of all it's straight up hill all the way to the top. Nice views and very quiet. Some areas of the trail are shady with lots of greenery. I had some great memories riding this trail and will never forget it!

Customer Service

I recommend riding straight up the fire trail. Once when getting to the top we road across the top of the mountain and exited in Diamond A. It was a long and grueling ride but very rewarding!!

Sweet trail if you don't mind going strait up and strait down. The singletracks that deviate from the main trail (mountain trail) are the real gems. Check trail openings because when I went there was no "permitted" way to get to the trailhead. Parking is $6 not $3 like it says on the web.

Customer Service

Park in the upper lot, head to the lake and get on Mountain Trail.

The main fire road goes up past the lake through nice lush redwoods, ferns etc...It's a steep ascent but the scenery keeps your mind off it. There is a new singletrack that branches off about two miles up, that is just great, it steadily winds up the mountain revealing some great views and places to enjoy the quiet of nature. It's grueling going up and fast and fun going down

Customer Service

Park off to the right of the entrance gate (parking fee is $3). Follow the fire road to the Jack London sites, past the vineyard and up and up......
