Sugarloaf Ridge--McCormick Addition - TRAIL

Sugarloaf Ridge--McCormick Addition - Trail, Santa Rosa, California

Mostly fire roads with some single track mixed in. Great climbs & descents; nothing technical. Beautiful, remote scenery. Great views of Santa Rosa plain from upper elevations. Note that access is via Hood Mountain Regional Park--Los Alamos entrance.

What the trails in this section of the park lack in technicality, they make up for in scenery: classic Marin/Sonoma oak woodlands & manzanita chapparal with year-round streams in the canyons. It's a good alternative to Annadel if you find the latter too rocky or crowded. Be ready to climb!

Customer Service

From Hood Mountain Regional Park parking lot on Los Alamos: drop down the (currently closed to cars) road to the old parking lot, then follow the signs for "Hood Mountain". Take the first stream crossing into Sugarloaf State Park & follow Quercus Trail on the left about 1/4 mile up. Continue up to Headwaters trail; go left up & over the hill, then keep right on Maple Glen trail. Wind up & down through wooded section, then climb to the trail's end about a mile and a half up. Enjoy the view, then make a u-turn and see how long you can lay off your brakes!
