Santa Luz Loop - TRAIL

Santa Luz Loop - Trail, San Diego, California

This trail is a mix of double track and single track that runs around the Santa Luz community. The trail is fun and has a nice flow to it. This trail would also be a good night trail due to it's location and terrain. This trail is not ridden often and is probably one of the best "undiscovered" trails in San Diego.

I live nearby, so I often ride this trail on weekends and after work. The loop is the perfect length for a two hour ride. The canyons make you feel like you are in old so-cal. The single track on the south side of the loop is a blast. I also like the steady climbs. I almost never see anyone on the trail. There are not many signs so most people probably do not even know how to connect the loop. There is a good description on MountainBikeBill's website. I hope more people go out and enjoy this little known but very fun ride. Please post further reviews.

Start out at the staging area on San Diguito road (North Side) Go down the canyon and cross under the bridge (Camino Del Sur Bridge). Climb up the fire road and turn right to follow the ridge. turn right into the park at the top and then turn left onto the single track that travels down the canyon. Re-cross Camino Del Sur and follow the trails back to San Diguito Road. You can also connect to Lake Hodges using the trail off Artesia Road. A connection is possible to Del Mar Mesa by crossing over Carmel Valley Road. Lastly, one can connect to Black Mountain by simply crossing over Black Mountain Road. I have even connected to Elfin Forest by crossing over Del Dios Highway. The Epic ride possibilities are endless from this little known area.
from this awesome central riding location.
