Winchester Loop - Trail, Meadow Vista, California

Winchester Loop - Trail, Meadow Vista, California

DESCRIPTION

Best kept secret as only locals seem to have knowledge of this trail. Loop is approximately 7 miles that runs the circumference of the very upscale Winchester housing development. (Can''t touch anything below $1.5 million). Trails appears pedestrian enough at the beginning either clockwise or counter but after 2 miles you will run into some technical stretches and some uphills that only the most advance riders can manage. Nice track with some nice vistas, views of the golf course and some mini-mansions. Have fun.

The trail is roached. Last years heavy rains have destroyed lots of the trail. I can get to this trail from my house and I will not ride it again major work has been done on it. It's a shame.

Good mix of technical climbs and descents with some smoother faster sections. Very lightly used. Shortish trail but still a great workout due to some steep technical climbs.

Gave it a 4s for both technicality and aerobic difficulty as the climbs are tricky and steep. It's not a long trail but I still haven't cleaned the switchback section heading up.

Customer Service

I actually like to pick up the trail where it parrallels meadow vista rd and is intersected by a little spur heading into winchester. Head down the hill from there (be careful for the 90 degree right turn at the bottom). Just follow the trail.

This trail has a little bit of everything. Switchbacks, rolling single-track, and several sections of rocky white-knuckle downhill. I believe CDF or a similair agency provides the maintenance for part or all of the trail, which at best could be described as minimal. A good majority of the trail has rocks, and there are some epic gardens.

Customer Service

If you're looking up the hill of Winchester Drive about half way up the hill, you want to look to your right. This direction sets you up for the best downhill section. "The Switchbacks" will be difficult either way, but this puts you on the side of the mountain with the better view as you're descending.

Not a trail for the light hearted, most I have shared this trial with hated it, I like it. Unless you are amazing you will walk your bike about 10 short hikes. All downhills are makeable but many challenging. Mark your spot on the uphills so you can make it further next time. This is a perimeter trail so it points right up an down the grade rather than follow the contours. One area of about 10 switchbacks up and then 10 down that are stellar. In winter, trails become streams.

Takes about an hour. Not a ride to travel for but if you are in the area and want a great workout this is it. Not recommended for SS.

Not for the faint of heart. Surprised I was the first to comment on this trail. Extremely challenging with steep and rocky terrain an intersting section of 20 or so switchbacks that allow riders to ascent about 300 feet in a very short distance. Lots of technical sections.

Customer Service

Counter-Clockwise unless you are an extreme rider.
