Oops! I blew it - the turn off of Sky Oaks Road onto the fire road to the Meadow Club is on the LEFT, not the right. Sorry!

I read the reviews about this loop, and they seem to describe the same loop I rode and I have to say, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ALL TALKING ABOUT? How can you give this loop a FIVE? I'm honestly at a loss here.

I was very disappointed. This loop, is boring fireroad and except for a quick relatively easy fireroad descent, offers nothing to challenge a riders skill. Most of the reviewers must have been sheltered from rides that are really challenging, or somewhere along the description of the loop failed to mention some turnoffs to anything that relatively resembled single track. Please someone show me the light, because at this point, besides the short singletrack available at the boyscout camp, riding in the Fairfax area is over rated and not worth the trip.

The area around Pine Mountan has become my favorite Mountain Biking area in Marin. Although, there are some trails that are better, more challenging, and more single track, I love the remoteness, few people (except on the occasional sunny summer weekend), and challenge. Most of it is fire road and the first couple of miles is very rocky, but there are some single track sections you can branch off on and you can combine it with many other trails in the area to make an epic ride. A side note on the single track, most is illegal, except for the boy scout camp which you can hook up on via Pine Mountain trails (requires a permit). I've found that if you go on a weeknight, however, there is no one on the single track trails, so you can get away with it. I make it policy, however, to never ride them on the weekends, which is when 99% of hikers are out in this area. As to someone of the criticism posted about this trail, all I can say is good less people on the trail for me.

Customer Service

Same as the others. Add Paradigm if you know where it is. It's hard to find. You have to get someone to show it to you.

The first part of Pine Mountain is the worst part-loose, rocky and steep. Very hard to stay on the bike when the rear tire spins out. Great remote trail, not too many people and lots of everything if you can get to the new singletrack at tamrancho. Stay on San Geronimo ridge, peel off on Whites Hill(the left before Repack) and bomb it until you get to the intersection. Hang a left, and hit the first singletrack you see. Its private, but the scouts allow access for a small fee. Try it and see if its worth the price, but I found it to be nicely maintained. Repack-schmee-pak when you can try this route instead.

Customer Service

try the Tamrancho, Boy Scout single track extension at the end. You have to thrash on White Hill to get to it though.

The best, well-known remote ride in Central Marin. Weekends attract lots of hikers and bikers in Summer, although most don't venture past the Pine Mtn. peak. You will not find the singletrack without detailed directions and/or someone with you who knows the way. This is a good endurance ride, beautiful and quiet.

Customer Service

From Fairfax climb up Bolinas-Fairfax Rd.- Right @ Azalea Hill, Loop around onto San Geranimo(sp.) Ridge- drop into Tamamrancho via White's Hill fire road. You must have a pass for Tamarancho, otherwise drop down Repack and test your brakes.

If you start up the Tamarancho trail head right (not left) at the first fork. Once you hit the fire road head left and start climbing.

The fire road isn't too tough, but it's fast with enough rocks and things to add some excitement. What really makes this trail oh-so much fun is the sense of isolation (so what if you're only a few miles from SF!) and the view. Really, really love this trail! (Granted that this review is of very little value - but it is fun!)

Not too technically challenging, but a great time.

Customer Service

Head up Tamarancho and then get hopelessly lost - one of the pleasures of this area - every turn is another scenic vista or smooth single track.

This is a hellish but amazingly fun ride. You have to be in the mood for serious rocks and challenges. The hill climbs are hard on the rocks and the steep is very steep (and quite muddy and slick right now.) Don't do this loop if you are not in the mood to be slightly battered or to be out more than 2 hours. (Maybe I am slow.) I also don't think any beginners should be out there. I also would not ride this alone in case you get injured. There are very few people out on this trail. ut, on a positive note, there are few hikers since the loop is long and hilly.

Customer Service

There is really only one way

It does not get any better than the Pine Mt. Loop. No matter what time of year it has it all, a real test in mud or summer when loose. Views, water, hard climbing, some great down hill, technical and serenity.

Customer Service

Start at the top of trail head and do the loop.
