None of these trails have been reviewed in a long while which is very suprising due to the amount of mountain bike traffic that I see there. Charlie Canyon is a good uphill climb with two fun single tracks coming off at the top. There is so much exploring to do on the trails in Castaic also. There are a lot of fire roads for those getting back in shape or some technical up and downhills for the more advance riders.

Customer Service

Take I-5 north and exit at Parker Road. Turn right and then your first right again and park at the sports complex. Take the paved road and pass the dog pound and the paint ball park. Continue about a mile and take your first right and begin climbing to the power lines. At the top you can choose one of two trail that will take you back to the dog pound. There are many other trails in the area also like up Lake Hughes and the Junk Yard.

You guys are riding in the wrong area. You're not even close. Don't go anywhere near the dam. When you get off HWY 5 to go towards Castiac Lake, make a left at the first intersection (McDonalds will be on the NW corner, and BurgerKing on the NE corner, 7-11 on the SE corner.) Continue up this road, heading N, parallels HWY 5...until it turns to dirt. Thats where you unload and start riding from. There's miles of exploring...a tunnel that goes to the west side of HWY 5, some gnarly single track that loops back around down a stream. Some friends and I carved some new trail with our motorcycles some years ago, up the creek. We even made a nice outdoor MX grass track. There are more trails that go up into the hills on the east side of HWY 5...another tunnel that cuts overthere. Have Fun!!

Customer Service

From LA, HWY 5 N, get off at Castaic Lake offramp, going towards the lake, make a left at the very 1st intersection (Mc Donalds on the left)...continue up this road til it turns to dirt.

Further up HWY 5 you can get off the HWY at Parker Dam rd...on the west side of HWY 5 is a paved hwy...take it to the right and follow it all the way down till it ends. Here you will find Piru Creek, which flows from Pyramid Lake down to Piru Lake. There is a gnarly trail that goes down stream. Lots of water crossings, big rocks and goog fishing holes. Definately for the very advanced nutjobs ;) On the east side of HWY 5 is a paved/dirt road that heads up to upper lake Castaic. Worth checking out. Its been many years, but we used to be able to ride our dirtbikes (motorcycles) there.

fire roads.

then, some more fire roads.

and then another fire road after that, and hey presto! another wonderful fire road after that.

after a racer is done with all that fire-roading, mesp tosses in a singletrack section which is probably three to five hundred yards.

whoo-pee!

don't even ask me about the illustrious and courageous LAPD shining spotlights in our campsite for no reason at all, while the hooligans rages and drank beer unmolested by the lakeside. i'm always happy to deal with law enforcmenet agencies who have their priorities set out clearly before them.

hassle the guys with the mountain bikes, that's whre the real money is!

i'm glad i don't race anymore. now i don't have to go to socal for any reason at all now.

mesp, bring part of the state championships series to the bay area, you cretins!

Customer Service

i do not recommend any route in the place. mesp makes you pay forty five dollars to ride it twice or three times, depending on your race class.

Good overall trail. The course was plowed in June as another noted, but has been ridden enough to be fun again. Lots of climbing and many singletrack options make this a fun ride. If you take all the s/t opts then 2/3 of the ride is s/t. The MESP course mainly follows the fireroad, you got to do the singletrack!

Park at Castaic Sports Complex (5FWY off at Parker (RT) to Castaic (RT) down 1/4 MI on left, Park. Ride back to Parker and go Right (now Ridge Rte) past Lake Hughes Rd to Park entrance. Enter and make 1st left and go to far parking area where trailhead starts (look for paved ramp at curb on left). Take trail past water tank and make 1st Rt, follow around trees and keep right to singletrack climb. Continue on course to upper lake campground area where you'll cross the paved road. Continue across rd past gate onto fireroad follow to top and look for tracks cutting to rt and back (singletrack that parallels fireroad). Either way you go you'll come to another singletrack (s/t) option that drops down to the lake, runs around the lakeside (~1mi) then climbs back up to the fireroad (f/r). Continue rt on the f/r and look for another s/t taking off on rt that parallels fireroad again. When you come to the gate (end of f/r) bear left onto s/t and follow ~2mi to fork. The trail going rt & up is the "Pro-loop" and will take you to the "Grapevine DH course" which is off the top, just look for the s/t that starts at the bottom of the fist DH. It's a fun DH, rollercoaster like, crosses the f/r once and then terminates at the bottom gate just shy of the trailhead. If you skip the Pro-loop just continue on the left trail and you'll pick up the lower portion of the DH course and end up at the same place.

About 7 miles of riding. A couple fun single track sections. A couple moderate hills to climb. Nothing's been bulldozed for a golf course. I think that guy is on crack. All these trails are within the park and will remain untouched by development

Customer Service

There are several different routes you can take here. It's not highly rated on this page, but I really enjoy riding here (I live almost on the trail) Go through the entrance, hang a left, ride down the road until it comes to the bottom of the hill that climbs up to the top of the damn. There is a trail head on the left and right of the road. I usually take the one on the right and follow it up and through the whole park. Nice hourlong ride.

Demented Fantasy

This trail is terrible! Stay away, do not come down from the North. Leave this trail off your list. The Pros that train here and race here every year do not know anything. Just a little sarcasm.
After the fires a couple months ago the trail was tore up from the bulldozers but both inner and outer loops are becoming quite nice again. Gotta keep riding the single track to pack it down. Overall this ride is probably intermediate but becomes a little more advanced if you add the outer loop with its roller coaster single track. Enjoy!

Customer Service

Follow the paved WARM UP Path to the Northeast corner of the lower lake. You will see a white water tank. The trail starts just pass the tank.
