Auburn Endurance Loop - Trail, Auburn, California

Auburn Endurance Loop - Trail, Auburn, California

DESCRIPTION

This trail does not really have a name rather it is a compilation of a number of trails in and around Auburn''s State Recreation Area. This one is for the cross country rider in all of us. Some technical stuff near the beginning (Manzanita Trail) turning to a mile-long, fast fire road downhill (Stagecoach). Back uphill for 3.5 miles on fire roads, singletrack and pavement (900 foot ascent on Clementine Trail). Next, 17.5 miles of the sweetest single track in Ca (Connector and Foresthill Divide Trails). Back on Clementine, Confluence Trail for moderately technical extremely fun downhill along Middle Fork of the American River and back up Stagecoach. In total, about 29 miles. Only the strongest and hardiest of souls can compelte this in less than 3 hours.

The route was a lot of fun except for the Lakeview connector trail. At the time I rode it (today) it was about 75% unrideable due to lay out and severe lack of maintenance. Even if it was kept up it would not be that fun of a trail to ride. It's more of a walking trail. The rest of the ride was a blast and its nice staging at the Russell road entrance because parking is free.

Customer Service

I would recommend avoiding the Lakeview Connector trail. Save yourself an hour of undesirable single track and fire road. You can bypass this by riding up the paved upper clementine lake access road. It will take you to the Forest Divide Loop staging area and you can continue the route from there. Just a suggestion.

For starters, this is a great epic ride. The trail description stated by the author is spot on. When you reach the division between the connector trail and the foresthill divide trail stay right. Bring lots of water, there is no potable water along the route.

Since this is a loop comprised of many different trails, it is easy to mix up the trail by doing the loops in different directions.

Many variations as stated by the author. The description is good, but in my opinion the quality is a little over stated. The trails are fun and I'm so glad we have them, but as for quality, they really don't compare to many trails right here in northern cali. I wouldn't travel far to do them, but if you are passing through it is well worth a visit.

Customer Service

I like parking on Russel road, the climb out of the canyon is only 700', smooth, and low angle. Can be done in the dark if you get a flat after work. It's a nice way to finish a good ride.
