Braille Trail - Trail, Aptos, California

Braille Trail - Trail, Aptos, California

DESCRIPTION

Playground, not too tech., mult small log jumps, a couple of bridges and a teeter totter! Who ever cut this trail has a killer imagination! It flowed and there was hits to jib off of everywhere! Trail drops from the ridge down to the fireroad, the trail is marked and its on the new maps!

I'm a big fan, it has options (fun or funner!) and includes some logs and jumps, some nice twists and turns. Designed well, and has flow. It's as good as it gets around the south bay / santa cruz. Went down one time without gloves on a hot sweaty day. Our crew hits this whenever we can.

Customer Service

Park on highland road and enter the gate, and take corral trail (fire road to trail) up to ridge trail then to Braille (bikers' right) out to exit road.

This trail has changed a lot since the last review was posted so I figured I'd write something up. The trail has been improved and hardened in some areas. The teeter totter was rebuilt with larger chunks of wood after it broke. The first one last about 3 years, the new one should last a lot longer. The trail has also seen increased traffic and the goal of the maintainers is to keep skidding to a minimum. To accomplish this we are putting more technical features on the side of the trail so that riders will slow down and play more. Keep your eyes open and you'll spot more each time down.

And please come out and help maintain this great trail. sign up at www.trailworkers.com

Thanks

Ride from the parking lot up buzzard to the vista. Then ride down ridge trail to braille. Ride down braille and then climb back out to your car. Bring a nice 6in travel bike you can pedal and don't be a wussy and try to shuttle this trail. The pavement section that you would bypass is a nice easy warm up anyway.

Technical difficulty rating is in comparison to local bay area trails and depends on how many of the features you hit.

"You just came UP Braille?"

Um, yeah, and it sucked. Don't try this. Maybe you can pull a reverse on Tractor, but forget about Braille unless you are a big fan of hike a bike.

overall the trail is very fun. it is a good just to go and have some fun on. there are lots of logs, jumps, a teeter totter, a few technical sections. the climb out to the abandon car is rather long but all in all a good ride

Customer Service

take to cars, park one down by the bridge, the drive up to the start of buzzards lagoon rd. take that to cusack, to the ridge trail which will drop you right to braille.

This is a truly great trail. It is one one of the funnest trails in the bay area. Plenty of logs and steep rolling single track. As for the people that have panned it, they must be hard-core down-hillers or just don't like to do any peddaling up hill. It may not be up to the caliber of the B.C. North Shore, but it is one of the more technical/Legal down hill trails I have found in the South Bay Area. The trail is in need of some maintenance work so if you enjoy riding it I encourage you to get out the shovels and pitch in.

Customer Service

I get there via HWY 17 to Summit Rd, to Highland way. Ride a few miles up Buzzards Lagoon to the Ridge Trail.
