Suicide Trail - TRAIL

Suicide Trail - Trail, Agoura, California

This is a very technical downhill trail consisting of loose dirt and rocks...lots of big rocks that can do damage to your rims and deraileurs. There are some drops and double-doubles along the side of the trail to add some air time to your ride. Full face helmet and protective pads are highly recommended. I rode this trail with clipless pedals but I would not recommend it. I also wouldn't take a bike with less than 5.5" of travel on this trail. Finally, this is a popular hiking trail so watch your speed on the blind curves.

Directions: Exit Kanan Rd. off the 101 Fwy and go north on Kanan about 2.7 mi. Turn right on Hollytree Dr. and enter Oak Canyon Park on your left. The bottom trailhead is at Oak Canyon Park. It's kind of hard to find but since it seems to be a popular hiking trail, you could probably ask around. You can either ride it up (expect to hike a bunch of sections) and then back down or if you prefer riding on your bike instead of hiking it, you can start off at the Palo Comado connector trailhead on Doubletree Rd., just east of Clear Haven Dr.. As the name implies, that trail will connect you to the Palo Comado Canyon Trail. Turn left when you get to Palo Comado and head north about 2.75 mi. When you get to a fork where the fire road continues to the right, take the left branch of the fork which is a singletrack. Shortly, you'll hit another fork with a signpost that says China Flat, take the left trail through a tree-covered area. At the next T-junction, again, take the left branch which is a slightly technical uphill climb. At the top, you'll see a gate down the trail, but before you reach this gate, you'll see a trail to the left that starts off with a short climb. Take that trail. About a few hundred feet, you'll see the drop-in onto Suicide Trail. You'll know it when you see it. At the bottom of Suicide Trail is Oak Canyon Park. Just follow the roads to exit the park onto Hollytree Dr. Turn left and ride down until you hit Doubletree Rd. where you'll make a another left which should take you back to the Palo Comado Connector trailhead.

I read a couple reviews before riding this trail and almost decided not to do it because it sounded like you need a long travel bike with full protective gear to make it down. I made it down fine with 4 inches of travel front and rear and my normal riding gear. It's not too bad because you can bypass most of the big jumps and drops. Really fun ride, highly recommend.

I did this trail yesterday for the first time on a fs bike and it was brutal. Def look into body armor before trying suicide. Starts off pretty technical at the begining with a lot of ruts, tons of rocky drop offs and a few good jumps, then gets pretty tight and fast at the bottom. This is an advanced trail so nut up.

Did double tree to dead cow, its the best way to get up there and not be completely exhausted at the peak.

Great downhill trail. It has a little bit of everything I like. Fast rocky sections, jumps, drops and really fast fire road at the bottom. I def recomment like the others have said, plenty of armor and a full face. I've crashed here a few times and some parts are not forgiving at all. This is a great trail to progress your riding skills.

Customer Service

Park in the park and hike/ride through the back and up dead cow fire road to the top.

I am a xc rider with a four inch travel rig. Came across this by accident. It took afew looks before we went down, but once we went down, it is one of the best rides I had ever pulled off. I am not a risk taker, but feel better about my biking skills. This is very technical, don't get me wrong, but it is a blast. I would do it again with my xc rig in a second. They rebuilt it not to long ago, and is very rideable. I never bottomed out on rocks. When they redesigned it they put in areas that you can ride around the big rocks. They do have jumps if you want. Please don't get me wrong, this is veru technical, but a blast. Have fun.

All I can say about this trail is... WOW. It's crazy. Cra Firstly, I ride Chesebro often. I usually head up Sulfur, hang a left, go up the switchback, and take Palo Comado fireroad back down.

But, I heard about Suicide Trail and had to try it. It starts off with the rider having to go down a steep pile of rocks (get behind the saddle!) and off you go. Its very rocky and unmaintained. Gets fast and always stays technical. Theres a bunch of jumps so hit, and your guaranteed to launch! There are also quite of bit hucks and drops that I walked. WAY to much for me. And I am intermediate rider. I took a hard spill. I simply bit off more than I could chew on one section. I ride an '08 Giant Trance and it couldnt soak up everything, so I went over the bars. **WARNING** I suggest protective gear. Full face helmet would be nice, too. By buddy's face got torn up who ate it.

Its fun. Go slow if you are worried. Its tiring. Its technical. Make sure you have enough suspension if your going to bomb it. My buddy on a hardtail nearly broke his back and bike!

Customer Service

Sulfur up. At junction, hang a left towards switchback climb. Once you get to outlook (part where you could take fireroad back down), hang a right and go up the fireroad in the distance. Keep left AT ALLLL TIMES!! Your going to go through China Flats (through trees). KEEP LEFT. Theres going to be a point after that section where theres a trail off to the left. Up a climb. Go up that. Keep going straight, and the devil will be waiting for you.... Make out your will before...
