Went to the resort in 2010 and was told that they closed all the single track trails for biking and no longer rent bikes. Don't expect much of anything in the way of mountain biking on the resort property.

I'm not the most experienced downhiller, and I can only compare it with Killington, VT (WG is much more challenging and much smaller) and Winter Park, CO (ditto). The staff is friendly and the trails are varied. The lift breaks down from time to time, requiring a WG pickup truck ride. (They claim they've got the lift fixed now. Time will tell.) The expert trails truly are expert (imagine a ski jump skinny that lands in a rock garden), and the easy trails aren't easy. I love it.

Wintergreen is a cool spot to just kick back and ride some "SHORE" type trails. I've ridden the real NorthShore in BC and these guys who have built this stuff in WinterGreen> Brad,Bansh and others are on the right track! The runs are short but are packed with good value so dont listen to that peckerwood "WakeUp's" post below because he's just pissed off becaues he is too much of a wuss to ride any of it! Im not the worlds biggest fan of Ski resort type riding but its worth the trip there because the trails are well thought out and are technical enough to bite you on the ass if you dont stay focused.

Steep, steep, steep. If you thought u know 'technical', you will be surprised. Steep, rocky, rooty, off camber, switch backs, NS stunts(ladders/bridges/drops). Amzing riding, awsome friendly atmosphere. New trails and stunts getting built all the time.

Customer Service

Berm trail- head right off lift, cut into woods...huge steep tight berms, followed by steep rocky rooty sections, and couple of drops.

well I don't use this site often, but let me start off by saying that Wintergreen kicks ass. If you are into butt draggin steep dark loamy, rocky, rooty soil; this place is for you. If you enjoy techincal drops, ladders, and other north shore style riding you will love this place. If you are looking to improve your technical riding skills come out and ride your bicycle. This place has made a vast improvement since the beginning of last summer. check out va. forums on www.ridemonkey.com for pics of what's up now.

Customer Service

Start with Tyro a high speed shot down the slope duck left into the woods over a rock, fly hit the stump jump, roll the rock face, keep on going either hang a left on to "two tree chute" or continue straight on tyro and hit a rock drop. I can't believe it's Wintergreen is another real fun trail. After you are good and warmed up check out Mecca. Other trails to check out are Banche, Berm Trail.

Excellent place to ride if you want to vacation with the family. I left the wife and kids at the swimming pool, along w/ a credit card to shop at the resort stores, and headed to the bike center. The 7 mile ride was mostly downhill and somewhat rocky at times, but definitely worth it. Thomas, our guide, was great. He gave us a few pointers, and even administered first aid after one of the riders went over the handlebars. They have a van that takes you back up to the top.

Customer Service

Go to the bike center on top of the mountain sign up for the expert guided tour.

This trail is fast and bumpy. I ride a Specialized FSR Comp and it did well. Full suspension is highly recommended for this trail. Make sure your brakes are in good condition, you are going to need them. The ride down takes about 60 to 90 minutes depending on your skills. The van service is a life saver I can't imagine having to climb that freaking mountain. The van ride takes 30 minutes with no stops to get back up the mountain.

Watch out for the rocks and the three creeks that you have to cross. The first is impassible on your bike so get off and walk it. The second two you should be able to make if the water level isn't too high. I highly recommend this trail. Have Erik check your brakes before you ride the guy knows what he doing. I'll be going back as soon as possible.

Customer Service

Make sure you ask about the shortcut to the actual trail. The shortcut takes down the actual ski slope and the ride down is intense. Watch out for ruts!

Very good trail in which you can reach some very fast speeds. 98% of the trail is downhill with the best parts near the top. It's very rocky in some spots which in my opinion detracts from the experience. The middle portion of the trail would be absolutely awesome if they would smooth out a bit and maintained more. I'd much rather work on building speed versus trying to keep from blending my internal organs. Also, anything to get more air would be cool also. I ride a Cannondale Super V400 (dumped all the stock components) that did well and I usually do the trail atleast twice.

Make sure that you call ahead and find out if Erik will be there or not. He has to drive from Charlottesvile to the resort. The first time I went, I had to wait an extra day to ride, because he was not there (i had not made a reservation). It's $5 to ride if you have your bike - this pays for the shuttle that brings you back to the top of the mountain and is good for the entire day. Bike rentals are around $40/day I believe.

Erik told me that they are working on another 30 miles of trails for mountain bikers.

I would normally rate this trail 4 stas, but the shuttle makes it 5!

Customer Service

Forget going down the road (blacktop past Mountain Inn) to get to the trail, drop in at the top of the Turkey Buzzard Ski slope and take a left about mid-way down!

THIS IS MORE FOR NoSLZZP (BELOW). SO YOU WANT TO SMOOTH OUT THE MIDDLE SECTION?????? BUT, THAT'S WHY THEY CALLED IT MOUNTAIN BIKING!!!!! IF YOU WANT SMOOTH TO RIDE BUY A ROAD BIKE! I HATE IT WHEN I BUILD A TRAIL AND SOMEONE COMES ALONG AND MOVES ROCKS AND OTHER THINGS TO MAKE IT SMOOTH. THEN THEY TELL EVERYONE THAT THEY WENT MOUNTAIN BIKING OVER THE WEEKEND. AS FAR AS THE TRAILS AT WINTERGREEN THEY ARE GREAT AND CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE TO OPEN.
