Kincaid Park - Trail, Anchorage, Bikeparks

Kincaid Park - Trail, Anchorage, Bikeparks

DESCRIPTION

This area is a world class crosscountry ski area in the winter. It is built over old glacial morraine. There are miles and miles of fast double track trails that go up down and all around. Nothing very technical but very fast ant fun. An interconnected maze but maps are available sometimes at the visitor center.

This is the best place for mountain biking within the city of Anchorage. Far better then Hillside: more trails, better trails, less people. If you cant find anything other then "beginner" trails, then you aren't looking hard enough. This park is absolutely CRAMMED with challenging singletrack. It is seriously all over the place. Look harder.

Customer Service

Get on the Lekish Loop. There are singletrack trails heading into the woods at the top of every hill.

Also in Kincaid: Try the Horseshoe/Icebox Loop if you want big hills and more hardly ridden singletrack.

I am from California and had a week to ride in the park in mid July. Early before the women woke up I toured the park with my brother who lives adjacent. I recommend taking a local who knows the trails because there are many and you can end up going in circles. We went for an hour ride about three different mornings and didn't see any other riders. We did see a few runners, a few moose and porcupines. I am used to riding rocky trails at Lake Tahoe. There are no rocks in Kincaid Park. The trails are nicely packed and hilly. The soil is sandy and there is very little if any dust. There are no long climbs but enough climbing to satisfy any XC rider. Although most of the trails are roads there is just one good track on most of them so it is really all singletrack in the park. The grass was high and on some trails it was mowed. This was some of the finest riding I have ever done. The park is huge. We rode different trails every day. The bad reviews on this trail must have come from someone who is just a poser and doesn't ride. I can't imagine someone not liking these trails.

Customer Service

We entered the park from Jodhpur St.

In my opinion (which isn't much) This is one of the best trail systems in any urban area in america along with Cameron Park in Waco, Tx. World class cross country ski area in the winter and could be the same for mountain bikes in the summer. TRAILS FOR ALL LEVELS. Try the ones on the south side of the park and you will be winded. You can ride for 30 minutes or all day and then ride the coastal trail back to civilization. BEWARE OF MOOSE. They are everywhere.

This is one of the best trails to ride that is right in Anchorage, which makes it soo awesome. I love the doublewide roller coaster stuff, and the uphill along the fence is a doozy. I have yet to make it up it. If you're a local, you must know about the single track and I have to admit that it is out of this world. But the problem with the single track is that people keep making it wider, so lets not tell every body and their brother about this safe haven that in the summer, we have almost entirley to ourselves(minus the moose, I've had a few close ones). I did my first race here< the Tuesday night series, and ever since i have been addicted. I also did the 14 hour race and that as well was righteous. I only wish I had such a thrilling summer as last, that lasted a few more months.(I have to have an off-season for my freestyle skiin'!!)

Customer Service

Everything especially downhill stuff. Do the fence line cause i have yet to, and just find some single track yourself cause nobody wants you to ruin their favorite route. And if you do find the single track, DO NOT MAKE IT WIDER!!! Its much more challenging when it's 2 feet wide rather than when it's 20 feet wide!!

the coastal trail and on the way do worensof just for the he11 of it;), any side trails off of the coastal trail are fun and then finish off the day downtown with some Urban riding and some Beer(while in my case Root Beer)!!! And by the way I ride a 35LBS KHS DS-1500 Witch Doctor w/ 4.5 inches in the front and rear. It works out great for it all. Alos try Powerline pass, Johnson's Pass, and the Gull Rock trail for some out of town stuff!! Happy trails and "Just Keep Swimming, or in our case RIDING!!"

Trails 32-35 are the most difficult and by far the most fun to ride. It offers roller coaster style riding with some challenging short uphills and fast sloping downhills.

These trails are wide, wide, wide. All kinds of riders can ride these as they are very well marked, mapped, and very smooth. Not much of a technical challenge here. Some moose to be seen but probably no bear. Something out-of-towners (like myself) can stand to avoid.

Customer Service

I've always started at the visitors center of the Raspberry rd. parking lot. The roller Coaster trail is probably the funnest trail. It can be accessed by the archery range.

Generally double wide stuff, most trails are easy enough for about all skill levels. Look at Kincaid as two sides: Bluff side and Lake side. The Bluff side is steeper, with sharper turns. The Lake side rolls more, like a roller coaster. The thing is, the really fun stuff and the technical riding is "hidden." You need to ride with a local, someone who knows the "secret singletrack" that shoots off the main trails, diving into thick trees and off steep ledges.

Customer Service

Same as above.

This is fun riding, and I see where some people might find it rather rudimental and somewhat easy. But this is still my favorite place to ride. I have found tons of singletrack that is rather challenging.

these are not biking trails, they are skiing trails, they are to flat, needs some more singletrack. I have raced in the kincaid race for 4 years, and you would do lots better with a road bike!

There is some cool stuff in Kincaid but you have to look around and find it. Personally I prefer Hillside since there are fewer people and less noise from commercial aircraft. What's nice about Kincaid are the views, you can ride along the bluffs and check out the inlet. The tides are pretty wild. As far as the trails, I haven't memorized them all. The maps are available in the big Parks & Rec center and worth the money since the area is pretty large.

Coastal trail. Sure it is paved, but it has nice views and can get you back to downtown if you are doing a big loop ride around Anchorage.
