Telegraph Pass South Gila Mtns - TRAIL

Telegraph Pass South Gila Mtns - Trail, Yuma, Arizona

Option 1 (pavement warmup): Ride south on Foothills a couple blocks then turn left at the Mexican restaurant. Follow this street until the T intersection then turn right on El Camino Del Diablo. Follow this to 40th Street, then turn left. This will turn into a dirt road which crosses Fortuna Wash and will get you to the trails. Option 2 (minimum pavement): Ride east on the frontage road until you run out of pavement. Proceed about 50 yards on the washboard then bear south (right) onto a straight, rocky road. This will hook into all the other roads. Either way you get there, "Head for the hills" and have fun! There is singletrack to be found but it's steep and challenging. Most of the riding is on sandy jeep roads.

Not technical, can be fun with speed. Couple of rock gardens, plenty of sand (go figure), a good climb, and a nice (fast) downhill section. The only reason I gave it a 3 on technical, was cause there are a couple rock gardens that will shake your back teeth out. It's been a really good trainer for me, as it's in my back yard.

Park in strip mall just off I-8 as above, then head east on the south frontage road. keep going east off pavement till past the Border Patrol station. Bear to the left, and stick with the well-worn jeep trail (all others seem to disappear)climb up the back side of the roller-hills. You can descend there, or if you look off to the east, there is a foot trail going up into the mountains (Quite technical - hard to walk on, spooky ledges). My favorite descent is to stay right on all forks, then pedal hard at the end, you can jump into, and out of the wash if you carry enough speed - YEAH Baby!
