Llama Trail - TRAIL

Llama Trail - Trail, Sedona, Arizona

Great connector between Sumarine Rock Loop and Courthouse Loop. Twisty-gnarly-bump-and-jump infested wild classic Sedona single track all the way under humongo redrock mouments

This trail connects the Courthouse loop to the little horse trail. I rode it north along with 4 other riders, all of us having intermediate to advanced skills. This trail is awesome. Short 30 second climbs, blazing downhills, tight turns, technical sections ( only rocks!)etc. I would say it was one of my top rides this year, a "must do" when in Sedona. Once you get to little horse, hang a right turn and head up a mile or so . Its all climbing, but fairly straight forward, couple of hike a bikes along the way. You'll end up at chicken point. when you turn around, its a blazing fast technical down hill thats fast and furious, tight banked turns, jumps etc. This trail is not technically "finished" but its still very rideable although not marked. Stop by Bike and bean for details.

Bell rock trail parking lot ( south end) ride the Bell rock trail north around Bell rock, when your on the North side , go east on the Bell rock trail until hitting the Courthouse loop trail ( marked) bear left right there, there will be a clear "wilderness" yellow sign on your right, dont go there ( $300 and they take your bike). Continue on the Courthouse loop now heading east, you'll ride up a old stream bed, look for the the singletrack off to the left for the start of Llama, not marked! Bike and bean guys can help you with a detailed shop map ( and an expresso!)

This was a fun little connector trail - I actually enjoyed it more than Broken Arrow. If you're coming from the Broken Arrow direction the first mile is pretty tame - buff single track but then gets into a series of up and down wash crossings that are a good technical test. I ended up in a fairly confusing maze of trials at the end but exited to the Bell Creek bikeway along Highway 179. Fun, and more fun...

This trail is all about the single track. I have only cleared the entire trial once without putting a foot down. When I first started to ride it I hated it because of the constant up and down. Now I ride it for the intense physical aspect of the trail. It is challenging because you climb the first half of the trail. The second half is downhill. The single-track is hard to beat. The trail is short so I always use it to connect from chicken point, mystic, or cathedral rock. It always adds a fun challenge to each ride.

Customer Service

I ride the trail from south to north because I think that direction has less uphill and I can average a faster speed.

Relatively boring. Has some very short ups and downs, nothing really technical (like the chute up to chicken point).

Customer Service

Fun to do once I suppose, splits off to the left from the little horse.

If you like Cathedral Rock Loop, Submarine Rock Loop, Courthouse Rock Loop (5 star rides all!). . . then this is a great way to tie them all together. No longer necessary to ride the tourist infested Bell Rock Pathway urban trail.

Customer Service

As above.

I am in deep trouble here. I have been accused of letting the cat out of the bag on this semi-quasi-"secret" trai. Now the Sedona Mountain Bike Taliban has put out a contract on me. I am a wanted man in Sedona. Have a little compassion here. You ride it once and you won't be able to keep your mouth shut either. Send lawyers, guns and money.

Customer Service

I've approached Llama from Courthouse Loop Trail, From Submarine Rock via Little Horse Trail and from the Urban Trail via Little Horse Trail. Always a great experience.

Another classic Sedon-er. Mostly smooth and fast, all fun. Like Cause McRay said it's a great trail to tie together Submarine Rock and Bell Rock trails. Don't worry about being shot on site either; except for a few cheddar-heads, the locals are a really cool. Remember to observe the wilderness area if riding the long way around on Courthouse Loop. I wish the whole trail was open to bikes also, but don't give the rangers a reason to shut down more trails. Any questions inquire at Bike N Bean directly across the road from the parking area.

Customer Service

Park at Bell Rock. Approach from Bell Rock/Courthouse area.

Great trail! I was turned on to this trail last winter by some locals when I was down for my annual escape from winter trip. I've had the privilege to watch it evolve from a primative hard to find single track to easy to find narrow trail (I have no idea what the last poster was babbling about....if you need a trail sign go to Moab!). This is my favorite trail in Sedona!

Customer Service

I park on Valley Verde Road and ride Budda Beach, Cathedral Rock, Templeton trail, Bell Rock Pathway, and up Littlle Horse to get to the Llama trail.

I am going to offset the review from the dude with no clue below. this is a great trail connector in the Sedona trail system and is totally worth trying while you are out riding around. It may intimidate beginner riders but to anyone w/riding experience this is lots of fun. The best way to take the trail is to ride down Little Horse Trail where it intersects to the left and goes south. IF YOU GET TO THE LITTLE ROCKY TECH SECTION THAT VEERS TO THE LEFT ON LITTLE HORSE YOU HAVE GONE PAST THE TURNOFF! give it a try. Beats going back down Bell Rock Freeway...er pathway.
