Herkinham - TRAIL

Herkinham - Trail, Sedona, Arizona

This trail was build to honor Norm Herkinam who is an 80+ year old guy who knows just about everything natural about Sedona. This trail was built differently than most trails in Sedona. The forest service, Red Rock Ranger district, used building techniques they usually use in Wilderness areas, in other words there are are few landscape features and low impact. They relied on natural features to sustain the trail. In any case, very fun narrow single track ride up or down. Conncects with Old Post trail.

I've only taken Herkinham from Old Post Trail up to the High School. This direction gets my heart going real good every time. I have yet to make it all the way without stopping because of dabbing and because I've been out of breath. Several technical places that will be a challenge as well as some good climbs.

Customer Service

My friend has hooked a number of trails up to form a 22 mile loop. Park at recycling center on Shelby and make way to Herkinham via Carroll Canyon then Old Post. Cross 89A and get onto Girdner to Rupp to Cockscomb to Deadman Pass to Long Canyon. Make way on some single track down to Dry Creek Road and then to Thunder Mountain, take for a bit and then head down Adante or Rodeo to 89A. Travel along 89A to Airport Road and take that to the look out and on the right side of the road go over barrier and take Bandit trail back to start point.
