Houston Trail - Houston Loop Trail - Trail, Payson, Arizona

"Houston Trail (3mi)" is the route to get to the "Houston Loop Trail (3.6mi)" in Payson, Arizona. I rode it for the first time in the beginning of August 2013. It's my first forest trail and I have to say, I LOVED it. I'm a beginner/intermediate, so all you hardcore guys might be a tad bored. It seems to be shared with motos, because there are tons of super-fun bank turns going down the hills with speed sections! The views are awesome, as well. About halfway to the Loop Trail, there are some native ruins at the top of a rock hill (see picture). Definitely a good way to get out the heat in the summertime! I would suggest anyone try it at least once.

Happened upon this trail by accident when heading up to Cabin Loop. My friend and I rode the Houston Trail and caught the Loop from the camp grounds around to Star Valley and then took the 260 back, about a 15 mile loop.

it's a multi use trail, and that includes ATV's some good views of the Payson area once you get into the middle of it all. You are never really far from a road but you feel really remote.

I found the decomposed granite sections of the trail and the sections really washed out from the monsoons this year to be particularly challenging. Overall the trail was fun to ride and a nice phoenix escape.

I am not too familiar with the area and trails, so can't really compare it. I thought it was a good trail if you don't want to venture too far out (like go up to the rim trails)but still get some good riding in.

Customer Service

Start west to east, maybe beneficial to have a shuttle pick you up at the other side if you don't want to ride on the side of the 260. alternatively you can pick up a loop and head back.
