This is just a quick note to inform the public that the last 2 reviews of this trail were actually talking about LOWER oldham, upper oldham is lower oldham's mean brother.

Customer Service

take the majic carpet to the top of the mountain, take a rest in the medow and head down. when the scary part is over and you meet the first little stream guy look to your left and notice the freeride trail. then continue on your marry way.

fun trail with some great scenery! we did this trail in august with day time highs in the sedona area at over 100 the san francisco mnts were a refreshing 75! 2.5 mile climb from buffalo park to the start of rocky ridge and then a fun 3+ miles coming down rocky ridge and back to buffalo park. watch out for the mud at the start/end of this trail if it rains. it is thick black mud that is very hard to get off and impossible to ride in. try to be off the trail by 1pm in july and aug as i rains/lightning almost every afternoon

Customer Service

Go down only.

Customer Service

Never go up this trail i did once and i had to walk so much. It is a little to steep in my opinion to be a bike trail. I see lots of people driving there bikes to the top and riding down this trail, so someone likes it.

This is a great little trail albeit short. Although Brand X guide book bills it as a ride in itself, no way. It is only good if part of a larger loop. Say for example you get up in a really weird mood and decide to ride UP Schultz Creek Trail, DOWN Little Elden Trail, Up Little Bear Trail and UP Sunset Trail to the top of Upper Oldham Trail . . . by this time you are pretty wasted and hungry and you want to get down to town for a java and snack at Macy's or Late-For-the-Train coffeehouse. No problemo. You could be sitting in a cafe horking down in a matter of minutes. Rip down Upper Oldham quickly followed by a snake ride down Lower Oldham (or Rocky Ridge if you got the remaining adequate energy) and bingo, there you be.

This is a hard trail to climb. If you are trying to become an advanced xc rider then you should force yourself to try it, if your just looking for lot's of fun, then try ray's loop. Or for a not so killer loop just go up schultz pass trail, over sunset, then back down.

Customer Service

Everyone says go down only-ssshhsshh. I rode this trail the first time I ever rode in the area. Needless to say I walked the WHOLE way up. But it was a great motivator, now I can ride the whole way up, and when you can, you know you're getting better. If you can't climb like a mountain goat, then go down only. If you want to hear your balls clang together, then try going up it sometime. Cosmic Ray's loop is awesome, and you can go from the TOP of Mt. Elden to your fireplace or javashop inside of 20 minutes.

i had to review this trail when i saw its low rating. any trail with 1000+ feet of descent cannot have a sub-3.0 rating. yeah, its not the premiere single track in the area, and its loose it sections, but still a good option. i wouldn't ride this trail everyday, but sometimes it makes a good option. its the quickest trail from top to bottom on elden. link with middle oldham and lower oldham complex to get back to buffalo park. this trail is steep and rocky up top and fast and furious toward the bottom. hold on. its not the most buff singletrack on elden, but if you're in the mood for some baby head style rocks and some furious speeds check out upper oldham.

I use upper oldham as a way to get to the top of mount elden. If you don't like dealing with the traffic and the people getting rides to the top with their bikes on the forest road then stay off it! Upper oldham is a shorter distance to the top than the road, because it climbs steeper. It is fairly technical and rough with an awful camber to the trail on the decomposed granite switchbacks. But riding up this trail will definitly increase your skills(especially with snow on the ground). It can be fun to ride down, but I like going down sunset more. Basically I use this trail to not get dusted out by the cars, because you almost always see idiots/crackheads/cowmolesters blasting up and down the road and around blind corners in their trucks.

Customer Service

Ride up all the Oldhams from Buffalo Park. Then take sunset down, little bear down, little elden up, schultz creek down, rocky ridge over, and back down lower oldham to buffalo park.
