First time riding in flag. Came up from phoenix to beat the heat. The elevation and the climb up elden lookout road about killed me. The singletrack on the way down was WELL worth the climb to the top. I Plan on making it up here at least once a month to ride this loop. The good news is that the climb will get easier. Top notch all the way around. Step out of your comfort level for a day, and RIDE THIS TRAIL. This is what that bike was made for!

Just like everyone has said before. Sweet downhill mixed with a challenging climb in the middle ending with sweet downhill. I, being born and raised on Flagstaff and living here my whole life, had trouble with the long uphill towards schultz creek. I am in decent shape and made it less than a quarter way up before i was winded. But this part is worth it, trust us!

Customer Service

Fire road to sunset to schultz to parking lot for the easy. If you want anything else, take it.

Downhiller

Don't let the "downhiller" mislead you, I do plenty of XC rides as well(like this one), I just happen to have a DH bike and I use it a lot. That said, the guy below is way off. This is a good trail for a good rider. I am not in perfect physical condition, I ride a 34lb XC bike, came from a lower elevation(Prescott), and I didn't bonk on the gradual 7 mile climb to the top. This trail is great though, nice tacky bermy-turns, some rocks to keep it interesting, just real fun. This(and the 3 other trails that are required to get back down to the parking area, you just dont ride back down this one) is a great payoff for the climb. Something like an hour of climbing for much more than an hour of windind back down to the parking area. There's some areas where you can do a little drop, some places where you can do a little jump, a few climbs, it's a GREAT XC ride.

Customer Service

Went up Eldnen Lookout, then onto the "catwalk", then hit sunset, oldham, little gnarly, and schultz creek. This could be done nearly all on trails though, but it'd be a real tough climb(THEN I might bonk).

start on a fire road at 7200 ft and climb to Mt.Eldon at 9200 ft. It is a tough climb, try to do it without stopping (Makes the feat that much better) Then take a cat walk for about a mile. Then you have a bit of up and down until you reach the downhill single track through the trees to bring you back to where your car is parked at 7200ft.

Once you get to the top of Mt. Eldon turn right and chill out on the tower for killer views. There is a cable fence on the left side of the road, the trail runs thru the fence down the Organ Donor/Sunset Trail.
About 3.5 mi. down singletrack heaven you'll pass Schultz Tank go thru the parking lot and stay to the left. Just when you thought that was some of the sweetest singletrack you'd ever ridden, hang on for 5.5 mi. more of some of THE best 1-track you'll find anywhere in the south-west.

Customer Service

Start up Eldon Lookout Rd. til you get to the top(7 mi.). Then it's a 12 mi. killer descent thru the Hobbit Forest and back to the car.

Bring your spankerchief for this ride. Granted, a fireroad climb that lasts for 6 miles is pretty monotonous. However, the decent down Sunset and Schultz Pass is absolutely orgasmic. There are moments where you feel like Luke Skywalker on a speeder bikes going through the Endor forest. Outstanding vistas and beautiful weather in Flagstaff. It may not seem like a fun ride...while climbing Elden, but it is well worth it once you hit Sunset.

Customer Service

Climb the Mt. Elden fire road for approx. 6 miles. Then take a left onto Sunset trail (you'll see the marker). Do your little turn on the catwalk...descend some slightly technical rock sections...Climb for another .25 to .5 mile and then descend Sunset. Hookup on to Schultz Pass afterward and end the ride with an ear to ear grin.

The long climb was hard but well worth it. The down hill is a total blast. This was my first time on the trail but I plan on riding it often.

Customer Service

start at the bottom on the fire road. Once at the top, take the single track to the left and rip down to the bottom.

The absolute best and most beautiful singletrack I have ever experienced. I spent three days with my brother who lives at the base of Mt Elden and can not believe how much quality singletrack there is to offer in this area. When I want to take a bike vacation forget Moab Flagstaff here I come.

Customer Service

I cheated and got shuttled to the top.
