Cobre Ridge - TRAIL

Cobre Ridge - Trail, Arivaca, Arizona

Take Exit 48 off of I-19 heading south towards Nogales from Tucson. Drive past the Cow Palace (or have breakfast there) and take the Arivaca Road 23 winding miles to the small town of Arivaca. At the west end of town, take the left road signed to Arivaca Lake and Ruby. This is the Ruby Road (FS 39). Stay on it and after about 7 miles you reach Arivaca Lake turnoff. The pavement ends shortly after this but continue on FS 39 (Ruby Road) for about 3 more miles. You will cross onto Forest Service land but continue on until you see the Warsaw Canyon sign and FS 217 road sign. Drive a short distance up this road and find a place to park under the trees. Your ride starts here--heading uphill and you will ride this loop counter-clockwise. It is 14 miles total, but seems longer because of the numerous hills and stops you will make along the way. Should take 2-3 hours total. Ride with a buddy--this is remote and the Border Patrol doesn't even go all the way down this road. You will be about 2 miles from the international border at the southern most point of your ride. Be sure to look at the smelter ruins around mile 5 and enjoy the water in the Warsaw Gulch streambed. Take plenty of water and snacks.
