Genes Loop - TRAIL

Genes Loop - Trail, White Plains, Alabama

Singletrack throughout with the exception of a brief period on a jeep trail near the beginning and pavement near the end. The trail winds through longleaf pine forest as well as stands of oak, hickory etc. One hard climb followed by a very fun and fast and narrow downhill make the trail a winner. Also, there are a couple of log obstacles on the trail. All in all the trail is a lot of fun.

Gene's loop is a good beginners course but be started at the exit and it was a bit muddy, it had rained a good bit a couple days prior. we got soaked. I reccommend starting at the enterance. It was up hill most of the way started at the exist. It was be better if you are a beginner starting at the enterance. There are alot of loggers cutting the tree's so it can be a bit confusing but still a good ride. Can't wait to ride again.

Similar Products Used: Mark's loop and the famuly route is a good rife for beginners also.

This is great trail that I have ridden for years. There have been many improvements to this trail since 2004. Lately they put in some small log stunts. This is a great trail for everyone. Smooth singletrack baby!

This trail is closed due to pine beetle infestation unfortunately. There is some of it left but the majority of it is gone due to the abusive logging that has taken place -they didn't even leave the trail. It was a nice roller coaster type of trail -not many hills. Lets hope that the pine beetle problem hasn't spread to the other trails close by.

Trail has been posted closed. Heavy Machinery in use through out area. Most of trail no longer exist due to heavy clear-cutting of forest. It was a good trail before all changes accurred now the trail is almost gone. Its ashame as it was a very fun trail to ride. hopefully it will be able to be rebuilt some day.

Customer Service

All bike trails in the area have been closed. A few of the trails no longer exist due to clear-cutting of forest.

Similar Products Used: Chief Ladiga trail in Jacksonville, AL. Although not actual mountain bike trail, It's a paved trails-to-rails project. Still A fun Ride with interesting sites.

I must review this trail because the average rating of two wheels I saw on the main page is misleading. This trail is indeed back in riding shape. The pine beetle logging hasn't altered the best sections of the trail(which were through hardwoods mostly). The trails are still quite wet in some spots with vernal pools yet to dry, but the ride is something I consider quite a blessing for this area. A great trail for the rider just beginning to trail ride but it is still quite fun for the more experienced.

I just rode this once this week when passing through the area. Gene's Loop was closed due to a controlled burn. From the portion I did get to ride, it looked like this was once a nice trail -- I wouldn't recommend making a special trip to ride it now given the burning and the logging.

On the plus side, I rode Mark's loop - a very nice non-technical, groomed and fast single track loop that starts in the hunter's camp parking area across Highway 9. Too short to justify the trip, but nice if you are passing through as I was and looking for a quick ride.

Similar Products Used: Cheaha is good; I've heard that iron legs in the same area is nice also, but I didn't have time to check it out.
