Start from the old crane and follow the trail around the edge of the island. If you prefer you can first check on the old quarry on the left. This includes lots of drop-offs and short technical ups and downs to get warmed up on. Return to the trail and continue round keeping the edge on your right. After a very short grassy climb turn right onto rocky, loose downhill and head for the stone tunnel/bridge.Keep blasting along until you come to 3 steps which unless your a trials maestro you'll have to walk up.Back on the bike, check out the view and continue, take care here (unless 200ft dropoff's are your thing)as there is a short climb very close to the edge.Once past this keep the edge/sea on your right and enjoy some grassy XC all the way to the old lighthouse. Cross the small tarmac access road and sample an excellent grassy downhill with lots of natural jumps.Head for the BIG lighthouse, swing left after the cafe and head along track amongst chalets. You will eventually find another technical, rocky section, the trail; is self evident through here so enjoy.. After a short, rocky climb you hit the main road. Turn right and follow the road for about 3/4 mile then turn right at Portland castle. Follow narrow road then footpath to viewing point. Go to the corner and try and ride up the log steps! Carry on this trail until you come to a sheer rock face usually peperred with climbers. Turn left up a steep, loose climb then right at the top and continue staying close to the edge. Eventually after riding through a very narrow 'footpath type' section you will arrive at the Prison walls.Head round to the right on tarmac, keep prison walls on left and sea view on right. At the small monument (if you've got enough energy left) follow the footpath signs for a REALLY technical singletrack downhill - right at the bottom and loop back to the rock face - repeat the ride back to the monument. From here carry on slight uphill, through gap in the wall and turn right. After about 200yds turn leftish and head for the faced compound. The trail here becomes self-evident with a short climb, turn left at top, at gravel road turn right and head for gate.Go through and follow the tarmac road back round to the viewing areas behind Portland Heights Hotel. For even more fun turn left at the viewing areas and head for second disused Quarry for more rocky, technical ups and downs.enjoy..

Customer Service

You can do this trail either clockwise or anti-clockwise but I personally recommend starting from the old crane structure (anti-clockwise) as this involves a great XC and downhill section.

Hardy's Monument (10 miles west of Weymouth - near Portisham). Some great bombholes/dropoff's and some really nice forest riding. Mainly singletrack incorporating some nice technical downhills - roots, jumps, trees etc.
