jim jam you are a idiot. you have to pay so they can keep the hire from the forestry commission. Anyway this is a great place with fast technical stuff, very slippery in the wet. the dh trails are about 1min40-2min30ish i think.

This a review for the X-C circuit. I have yet to tackle the D' hill. I had started M'tain biking at the end of '05 aged 41. Bought a Giant VT1. This review is written April '06. I rode the XC circuit in Jan 06 for the 1st time and to be honest it was damn dangerous. Roots I can deal with in the pouring rain, but I got off and walked the steep down hill 3x. This is not a trail to ride in the wet! Last I rode her was in April and it was dry. OK this was my moment. I had trained for this day for 3 months. I do not say that lightly. Having done : Red route at Cannock Chase 5 times, riding 2-3 x a week, serious weight training, 3x Trail Quests, 1x Adventure Racing, 1x Dalby Forrest Black Run, and half a dozen others. I was finally prepared. Sh£t. Why is the climb sooo hard? I managed the downhill (albeit that I got off once, re-assessed what I had failed and re-rode the corners that had defeated me) and I tell you, my heart rate monitor was going silly. I now have this circuit down as my "'Home" circuit. I had my sights set on doing this circuit properly, in one hit. I have no problem telling you I got off 4 times. It's early days, I grant you. I WILL ride this route in 1x hit, no stopping. That's my aim. Believe me it will happen. And the guys here are excellent. Good bunch - tuition available too. Top stuff. Thanks Tim

Just thinking, is the five pound fee for all day or do they operate an arm band policy like the ones you get in swimming pools?? Still quite annoyed that some people have chosen to take the freedom out of cycling by coming up with a pay per ride system. It sucks. Anyone fancy an egg-raid on the organisers? Failing that, a helicopter gunship or some napalm dropped on them and their clipboards and red and white tape.

Customer Service

The chopper should come in low on a south-west heading.

You have to pay to use this course. I can't abide that kind of extortion. My advice? Go anywhere else but here, you'll find somewhere better and save money. Who came up with the pay per ride scheme/plot? I blame Bin Laden.

Customer Service

I recommend you go home and think again about going to Aston Hill.

This is the best downhil track in the South of England, which gives you some idea of how bad the South of England is for DH. Once again a track which is based on quantity rather than quality, I.E. how many turns can we get into the shortest section of hill possible? This course flows like treacle. Also the hillside at wendover is so greasy when it's damp it is like riding on chip fat (i'd imagine) and when it is dry it is unbelievably dusty. This course is a dissapointment whenever I go, and it costs £5 to ride. In future I will spend the extra fiver on fuel and go somewhere better.

Customer Service

The bombhole at the top is alright, and the DB switchbacks are OK in the right weather, the rest of it seems to be 3 foot radius turns with rooty braking bumbs, or off camber slime fields. I don't mind any of these elements appearing on a course but they shouldn't make up the whole thing.

Race Track? You gotta be kidding. This place is a licence to rip off ignorant southern dhers. Get out and ride somewhere decent for gods sake. Take your £3000 intenses and yetis and go ride somewhere thats been built by decent trail builders for free. Don't give these con artists any more of your money until they start building decent dh trails and digging out the ruts in the ones they've already got. All these trails were here ten years ago before those firecrest clowns showed up. All you sad act reviewers who reckon this place is technical and 'ooohh, that step down on the black run is sooooo difficult...' get a life. I've seen bigger step downs on the way in to my grandmas bungalow. Get back on your xc bikes and let UK dh progress. If this is the future of UK mountain biking we are all in trouble. I've been coming here for five years and the place ain't changed a jot in that time despite pulling in over £50000. I just come back to laugh in despair at the place. Go figure.

Aston is awsome, the 4X is mental, its realy steep for a 4X track and towards then end has some huge step down jumps. The DH courses are immense, DH3 is a fast flowing course with jumps at the top while DH4 and THE BLACK RUN are steep and technical, great courses, and there is also a hardtail DH bit which is part of the XC course. Absolutley immense place, the bloke who runs it is really nice and there is a house in the cazrpark for washing your bike, wich your gonna need in the winter. Aston hill is brill but has terrible mud conditions in the wet winters, there is not only sh*t loads of mud but its a sticky as hell, this is because aston is built on chalk.

As per reviews below, this is the best downhill area in the south east. The area is run as a club and you have to pay £5 a day to ride - but is well worth it. Ian Warby and his team keep all the trails in tip top condition and the car park is manned all day so no worries leaving your car. There are now 3 downhill runs, DH3, the Black Run and DH4. There is also a resonable XC route (downhill part known as the red run) and a very good Dual/BSX course. The new downhill route, DH4, is mental. It runs down the steepest part of the hill and has some killer turns in the top 1/2 of the course - best of which is a mental 90 degree left hander with burm at the very bottom of a 20 foot 45 degree shute. The bottom is typical Aston loads of root beds and is very fast. I hear rumors of possible freeride/north shore attractions being built soon - hey but they're only rumors. This place is histerical in the wet due to the chalk base, particularly the bottom of the black run which turns into something more akin to a flume at a waterpark - the only diff being the trees either side! Anything under 2 minutes on either course is reasonable. I would say the average for a high speed potter down is 4-5 minutes. Anything in the 1.30 area for these courses is truly flying. Highly recommended - but you do have to puch back up.

Customer Service

DH3 for a fast flowing DH run (bit pedally at the top) The black run for a very technical DH descent with a great drop off (6 foot to a knarly root bed) DH4 for a faster (steeper) mental tree lined DH run

The black route is absoloutely mental and its even better to watch the good people like Rob Warner racing down it during the SAMS races.

Customer Service

Go down the black downhill route. It's mental and you'll find it challenging. Or you could chicken out and go on the easy red route. Its all sign posted.
