Christmas Common - TRAIL

Christmas Common - Trail, Stokenchurch, United Kingdom

I am a novice mountain biker and I bought a cross country bike for the fun and fitness aspect of MTBing. Christmas common near Stokenchurch in Bucks is great for the cross country begginer. It has a decent downhill section where I have recorded speeds of up to 30MPH and still managing to stop for the hair pin at the bottom. Once you take the right hand hairpin at the bottom of the hill you then start a gentle climb back up the hill on a typical woodstyle track. Just as you think your legs can't take anymore it levels out to a little bit of flat riding and then you are off into a gentle downhill section again where you can get some decent speed up again. Once you have completed the second down hill section you then level off to the flat and the onto the little up hill stretch past the big dell and then you take a left onto the next flat/downhill section. This section takes you off into the bushes and shrubs and starts to take you out of the woods and into a hard packed walking area that has a really nice feel to it and also allows you to get up some good speed. As you wind your way along the flat section you will go across some small whoop style bumps. These are nice as buy now you need a little help with the speed side. After you have worked your way through this section you then need to be hard on the brakes and low on the gears ready for the small yet worrying uphill hair pin into the loose shrubs and bushes. This section that we have titled section 7 will now take you across some flat hard surfaces winding your way through small section of wood and shrubland. We have found that shin protectors are nice here as their are stingers and thorn bushes a plenty on this section and the best way throught them is to just blast throught and go for it. There are 2 sections like this which are connected by a very open path. The last section of the wooded area is very technical with some small tight corners set in a small wooded area. There is a very fast run up to this section that proves your technical riding as well as your pace. Then it's off up the shingle car park back to your car to start another lap. This course is 1.61 miles long and is very good fun with a mixture of all different surfaces imaginable from. Mud Flint Shingle loose wooded ground. It has a nice mixture of everything. I think this is perfect for begginers or people that just want to keep fit and get dirty at the same time. If you are ever down this way you may well see me there. I am on an Orange and silver Carrera Fury. Just stop and say hello.
