Cadon Bank - Trail, Innerleithen, United Kingdom

DESCRIPTION

Summary: Cadon bank is the final descent of the Traquair XC red and black graded trail at Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders. Caddon Bank is graded black on its own. It''s not a normal xc descent, more like a massive downhill bmx 4x singletrack. This is pretty much how it goes. Pass the danger sign, drop off, bigger drop off, even bigger drop off, table top, berm, rollercoaster (involving about 8 12ft dips like bombholes but on singletrack), then through a gate, down a shoot with a right hand berm then over a rocky drop off, then another one then a left hand berm, then down a massive shute, then another berm... you getting the idea yet. It goes on like this for about 2km and none of it is climbing. Before Cadon Bank there is a rocky trials style section which is ace too and credit must go to the trail fairies for bringing us this one. Recommended Route: Just start pedalling at the top, stop pedalling occassionally and let gravity do its thing. There are chicken routes round the side of some of the bigger drops (max about 6-7 feet) and it''s a great place to learn to ride fast and off drops, safely*. *relatively. Other recommended trails in the same area: The rest of the XC route is superb. Innerleithen is also home to probably the best downhill trails in the UK (although Fort Bill does that very well too.). Glentress is just along the road near Peebles but has become too busy recently - especially on the new Spooky Wood descent - and there are loads of more natural trails and rights of way in the borders hills in the area. Check out http://www.7stanes.org.uk for more info on trails in the area. The Pentland Hills just South of Edinburgh are also good for xc type rides.

Hand cut 'natural'singletrack with a few sections of woodwork and drops. Beautifully flowy in the dry...wonderfully sketchy in the wet (most of the time)

I'd do the whole Traquair XC course first and finish off with this final descent at the end of the ride.

All of the downhill and xc courses at Innerleithen, more natural singletrack routes across the hills to St Mary's Loch and also along the Southern Upland Way to Yair, and Glentress is only 6 miles away to the west.
